That 'thing' is 5 minutes away from me. Well spotted Biff! It's been advertised here on a local website for a few years, originally wanted a lot more. I've never bothered to go and look at it, way too much of a project for me. If it's restorable, and I think anything can be restored, I'll defend his price somewhat. 250,000 baht is about 7,800 USD (divide by 32) and it would have cost him about 5k in import fees and shipping, jammed sideways into a container. Cigarettes are almost unheard of here. I've thought about that old girl for a full resto and outboard conversion but I'd have to palm all the work out. I'll wait until he lists it 'free to good home' then arrange to have it picked up. I could grow banana palms in it. RR Here's our local equivalent of Craigslist, it's pretty lame..... https://www.bahtsold.com/view/origin...rom-usa-331832 |
Would be a huge project.

Sharp looking Donzi, and You're asking less than most Thai Generals spend on their Rolex!

All true Lars, pretty fair asking price and selling for even less.... I heard the General bought all his watches from Craigslist, so they're only made from 'Craigslist Gold' and not the real stuff.... :D RR BTW, I wouldn't have thought my boat would find its way onto this thread! Lol |
That would be job security for me 😉 Actually the bones look good.

My ZR, "Fonzi" has done 13 hours in nearly 2 years, runs like new. (Just not very often) I've got a holding deposit at the moment. Awfully cheap, there's no market for decent sports boats here. If it wasn't sold in the next couple of months it was going to get a full makeover but a sale is better. :) I could be 'loose on the buyer's market' in a couple of weeks but very confused what's next..... RR |

Didn't you buy a boat that came over in a container?
RR Found the thread from Jeff (38banana) https://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/...a-arrives.html |
I have shipped parts all over the world and helps to remind me how lucky/spoiled we are. I remember shipping a prop to an island somewhere and the buyer paid more in shipping than for the prop itself. He taught me that, “some things we don’t have and have to have it shipped in. Clearly, us Yanks are spoiled.

Yep, the Donzi. Squeezed sideways into a high cube container. I was surprised when you said 'project' because it was ready to run, just needed service and clean. You may have me confused with Jeff who is also in Thailand (down South in Phuket). He bought the old 38 "Top Banana" race boat and shipped it in a container. No engines or drives and in need of a full resto. Not sure what's happened there but I believe the boat is back up for sale with pretty much nothing done to it. Lots to love about living here but not everything's a fairytale. I have a drive shower on my Bravo that owes me about 400 USD. Paid shipping plus 5,000 baht import duty because they quote: "Cannot know what the goods is".
Sorry OSO, I love this thread, hope we get back on topic. |

OK … been out of it for a while rak rua and got you mixed up.
Would like to know about the Banana? That Fun Deck looks like a nightmare. Needs stringers and transom and interior and …. |

I can't believe this showed up in Thailand. Looks like an original outboard boat, the cabin looks plausible given the vintage but the rest of the timber is definitely not correct. (Price 990,000 baht is about 30k USD) https://rod.kaidee.com/product-335936661 Roughly translated, vendor says it's original gelcoat, stored undercover and 190 hours total. Lounge, toilet, blah blah, blah.... Don't take Thai sellers too seriously, I suspect the boat has come here via Hong Kong or Japan and obviously had a few mods. RR |

Wow! Never even heard of one. Cool motors too 😎 Probably added a 1000 lbs but I even like the wood. Buy it and send it over Rak and I’ll get busy 😉 Im good in those motors too. Everyones geeked about the new Merc V-8’s but OMC beat them to the punch by 35 yrs. Way cool boat.

If they could build one now and sell it for 99k, there would be a queue of buyers (myself included) a mile long, :) The 8.8m would be a hotrod. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...b91b2d6026.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...ea33e0bc28.png |
Had no idea. That would be a killer hull for twin O/Bs. Those old V-8’s can be made into 400 hp motors w/a die grinder and a 6 pack, run on pump gas and be bullet proof. Convert to Merc 3.0 liter Sportmasters with 1.62 gears and you’d have something. Since a Fountain is basically a big Allison, they should love the O/Bs change in C. of G.

By way of Japan...

You did well to find that Lars! He's got a few possible gems among a bunch of misfits. He's about 3 hours from me, if I'm ever up that way, I'll certainly drop by and have a snoop around. I was impressed with the Donzi pics which show the care Thais take to stow ropes safely when boating...........Oh oh...... https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...94c0005a9d.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...e35b36f647.jpg I like the look of his Sleekcraft SST......... https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...c19480ad1d.jpg |
This one should be on Craigslist, the tattooed Baja from that awful movie "The Hangover Part 2". It's also part of his collection..... https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...da0cc6a52b.jpg (I'm surprised you didn't Notice that one Lars. Lol) |
