I'll play. 2015 37 AT ( dream boat by the way) with a set of Imco SCX-4's and I would have a pair of Eddie Young 600-800's. I'm guessing that would put me at about $350,000-$400,000, spend the rest on gas, maintenance and poker runs. The point I think some are missing is that it is free money and if you go out and buy a new boat with new drives and engines the cost of ownership is down compared to and older boat. Yes you spend less on the initial purchase with an older boat but you will end up spending more in the long run with issues like blown drives, rebuilding engines, etc... I will take a brand new boat especially up here in the north where our season is relatively short, where I may put a max of a hundred hours a year at the most on the boat. At the end of the day I would take the money and buy something that I could see myself in for the rest of my boating life and that would be the boat for me.

Remember the OB's were not as sophisticated and powerful as they are today so feeding quad "2 smokes" gallons of oil and then seeing/smelling/hearing them wasn't really a good option plus the boats were heavy/non-stepped which means slow on OB power. Today that equation has changed with 300-350 HP silent 4 strokes and the boats can be better engineered for them.

Most honest post on here! We're not here for a long time.....
I'm 28, and let me try to explain how most of the people I know think and operate.
Most have their own house or live in a rental that is below what their income will allow for a couple reasons. First is that most of us are out partying from Friday to Sunday, so you need extra cash for that. Second is that most of us have boats and you need cash to keep that operation up and running. Third is that most of us travel a lot, so why spend all of your income on one place and be strapped to it.
I'm not really proud of this but I don't try and save money as I would never say, "I'm not going on this vacation because I'm trying to save for something." This is also the way most people my age are and live for the weekend/party. Let's put it this way, what if somebody told you that you could make millions doing something but couldn't drink, no sex, no girls, no toys???????????? $hit I'd go on unemployment if somebody ever told me that.............
I plan on working until the day I die, and your best years are 20's, 30's and 40's, so why sit home saving money for when you're 70 and missed out on all the stuff you cant do by the time you're that age.

Anyone in their 30s isn't really today's youth. I'd say 18-28 is the youth segment. I'm 34 and love it loud and fast. Built several camaros in the past. Now I have the dually and looking at 42s. I have a nice apc custom build bike. It's loud also. I don't have the loud stuff to appease or affirm my manhood. I like things that sound good. I like music loud and clear. No distortion. I like any engine big or smallblock with quality exhaust that is loud and soda good.

Then good for you.
But to frown on others cause their choice for a more enjoyable experience isn't yours is pathetic.
You want a 42' boat....I want a 30'-32' now after now owning my 36'. Does that make you better in any way shape or form? Give you the right to bash or look down on someone? I would say no, it is just we see things differently.
If I could keep my sonic but by some magic trick get what I want out of a boat do you. Not think I would?
I own a loud 7.3 diesel Excursion, I also have a very loud Harley I am rebuilding currently, my boat is loud as well. But now I want O/B's on a boat and some how to some I am losing man cred....that part is sad.
Also yes, me at 32 and you are 34 are very much a youth in this type of boating.

You can always spend the money later, you just can't always put it away later! Now 2 kids, need braces (5K each), $200 goes no where with school supplies and other nonsense, kids are tearing through $75 sneakers seems like every other month....heck just going out to dinner is $75+ at a regular place like Outback. Neighbor's kids are into horses.....thank God my kids could care less, Mr. Ed is killing their family budget!
My dad was notoriously cheap, as a kid we never had cable TV, rarely went out to dinner (like once a month at Sonny's BBQ) and now as an adult I get aggravated paying for stuff my father never did......even just cell phones/cable/internet add up to thousands of dollars a year and over a lifetime it is serious money. I went to Atlantis in the Bahamas last month, it cost me 6K in 4 days! My dad never spent 6K in his life on a family vacation! Now granted the kids rented jetskis, swam with dolphins etc and had a great time and I didn't expect it to be cheap but the Bahamas isn't that great! Out of principle, I felt Atlantis was just gouging you for everything so despite walking through the casino daily I didn't wager a single dollar in there figuring no need to give them any more money than I was already spending!
Now I'm not saying go full on "Ted Kaczynski" and live in the woods ranting about the world but reel it a little, as you get older you will appreciate the money even more!

I do save some money but I am sure you do as well. We are not dumb enough to live check to check anymore. That said the rest you said is spot on.
Party fri-sun, heck....it starts on Thursday. Come to wing house on gulf to bay today and find me and friends getting it started today.
I learned the hard way life isn't forever so enjoy it while you can. I am 32 but have no mom, dad, grand parents, or anything. Some to natural some to sudden but all not here. You learn to live a little more life when you don't know when your last day.
The youth today are not the youth before. We definitely have a different attitude on life and how we spend and live.

.......I went to the Bahamas last summer on a triple 300 Verado boat, yeah they get louder especially when airing them out! I will say on a CC there are less places to hold on/sit comfortably when running at speed and when the wind changed it was a wet ride home!

I was surprised just how much of a bark the Verados have at speed

I would take my ancient '91 42 Fountain and yank the existing power and drives out of it and put three 700's and 6's on it. Blueprint the bottom, upgrade the dash and controls, put a Mitcher T paint job on it, and take the remaining 300k and just have fun.
