A Powerplay 33 does 72 - 74 with 2 300xs's. I have heard one going 76. Jamesgang's 31 sutphen does mid nineties with 3 300x's.

Wow so I guess my Progression is way more competitive then I thought. I would of never thought I could compete with a boat running triples....... |

Interesting I'm the first admit I don't know enough about this performance boat thing to speak definitively on anything. Although i have owned a couple of boats that some would say are performance boats a 24' SuperBoat originally powered with a 250efi Merc then repowered with A E-Tec 250HO and now a 27' Progression with twin E-Tec 250HO's. I've spoken to many so called experts some who's opinions matched my real world experience some who's opinions where just well way off the mark in my real world experience. After spending a couple months in my new rig learning it's unique handling characteristics and getting spanked by my friend Matt Lukas in his 30' Skater with 300XS's. Ive finally gotten a reasonable handle on the unique handling of the Progression enough so to safely hold the peddle wide open for pretty much as long as Id like. First chance I had to really run the boat in a competitive environment was the CT River run where I happened unbeknownst to me to be in a breakaway group of 4 boats leaving out of Old Saybrook me in the Progression a totally awesome driver in a 21' Velocity with a 300x Ben with one passenger another guy running a 21' Shadow with a 300X With two passengers. Out front after sweeping the crowd by about ten boat lengths was a 30' Spectre with 300XS's being driven by professional driver Tom Madelena and being throttle by none other then world champion Joey Emprescia. Long story short the Shadow proved to be no competition as we snaked up the CT River for roughly ten miles balls to the wall. I honestly felt that I had the speed to pass the velocity but not by much however due to the narrow River and the abilities of the velocity driver couldn't safely pass him and he no doubt had the same issues with the cat. I say this to really ask a question are Spectre tht slow compared to a Skater or is my boat just way more competitive against a 30' cat then I thought? I've also noticed that either a lot of people are either fabricating speeds or once again the Progression is just way more capable performance wise then I originally thought because I really don't see a lot of boat passing me. I guess this is why I'm asking this question I've heard over and over again how much faster cats are and honestly it makes sense I as well am once I've fully enjoyed the Progression plan on trying out a out board cat next. Guys really looking for information on Vee vs cat with real world knowledge thanks.....

2-250 etecs at 518 pounds each? Puts you at 3236 dry. That's crazy light. http://www.boattest.com/engine-revie...E-TEC-250-H-P- A 3236 pound 27ft boat dry. Yeah it'll move it doesn't weigh anything. My 272 formula for a 27 comparison was around 5700 dry. Compare apples to apples. |

Like I said I hear all these 90mph to 100mph numbers not from you guys but from a lot of the south shore guys on Long Island in NY but now that I've got a boat that's running north of 80mph they can't even keep up with that. Case in point two professional drivers running a 30' Cat with 300XS's and if I wanted to I could of rammed them. That's why I started the thread just trying to find out am I running a crazy competitive boat or is there a lot of fabricating going on because no one thought I'd have a boat to call there bluffs. |
Well case in point I gave you numbers on a 32 spectre with 300s running 97. You could not ram or come close to catching him for that matter. So I'm not sure where you're going with this. Hull efficiency is important but there is also a power to weight ratio. You have a very good power to weight ratio considering your boat must be built out of cardboard to be a 3200 pound 27ft boat.
Hell a 27 fountain which if you go by Oso standards is like a 19ft boat weighs 4900 dry. The way you are comparing "performance" we might as well bring in an Allison which can exceed 100mph with a single engine. Again apples to oranges. That's why racing has classes and hp and weight limits. Sounds like you have a speedy little river racer. Congrats. |
Hmmm not to sound hostile but like I said I'm definitely not going to be running 86mph the next time my boats in the water I'll definitely be north of 90 and with my power to weight ratio your 32 Spectre will most likely be playing catch up. I also gave you examples as well of running down a 30' Spectre with 300xs's probably weight wise closer to my boat however that day and there's tons of video just in a format I can't load on here. I had 1000lbs of people on board my boat and 100 gallons of fuel and I still had him pinned down. As far as rough water capability I boat in snotty waters off the Hampton's tator chip boat don't last where I boat. Here's some video maybe it will give you some perspective second to where from the day I ran down the 30' Spectre you can also see I was loaded down with people fuel etc etc etc. Heck as I said I was kinda shock but I'm learning in this boat thing not a lot people telling the truth about there top numbers I C U Looking.

I'd have to agree with you just wondering out loud if there are any exception that can still handle rough water. How'd that Gulf themed Y2K turn out you guys where building? |
You started this thread as a vhull cat killer thread. When they just don't exist.
So you're going to be over 100 from 86? Upping motor size? The 97mph I gave is a no bull**** number. In a 32 ft boat with 300xs's. Your boat is extremely light. Hell for comparison I looked up a 27 eliminator and it comes in at 4500w motor so still 50% heavier than yours. That boat will run around 90 with a stock 525. Imagine how fast it would be with 1500 lbs shaved off. Not sure how progression got a 27 so light. Impressive to say the least. But size for size power for power a v hull can not compete with a cat in pure speed. Proven time and time again. Not downing your boat. She's fast no doubt but light as hell. Like I said there are bass boats that will whoop many boats here in calm water but that's not a fair comparison. I'm just wondering where you're trying to go with this thread? Are you claiming to be the "cat killer"? Lol |
