Like I said I hear all these 90mph to 100mph numbers not from you guys but from a lot of the south shore guys on Long Island in NY but now that I've got a boat that's running north of 80mph they can't even keep up with that. Case in point two professional drivers running a 30' Cat with 300XS's and if I wanted to I could of rammed them. That's why I started the thread just trying to find out am I running a crazy competitive boat or is there a lot of fabricating going on because no one thought I'd have a boat to call there bluffs.
The best thing about having a very fast boat is just being able to cruise with others while not having to run hard. I have been told many times, "Hey we were right there with you" by someone who thinks they could drive around us. Next time that guy gets near us and conditions are safe, he gets a dose of reality. |

Being a Profesional or experienced driver doesn't make you faster . An idiot can be faster . The difference is the experienced and professional drivers know their limits , try to do it safer and know how to adjust for unforeseen occurrences on the water including Idiot's .
Most the time and I'm sorry if this offends some people with the fastest boats at the poker run but its usually a Jackass that just blast to all the stops the fastest . If you want to enjoy the experience you linger back , you run with the pack and enjoy the view . I let most everyone in a run pass me at one time or another and I usually only hold it balls to the wall once or twice the whole event . And its fun to let someone think they are faster then you . You wait till they talk a little trash then you embarrass them in front of their friends . Theres no such thing as a cat killer in all variables .. My Y2k runs just north of a 100 , Same power in a 30' cat would probably be 25mph faster and dust my ass on flat water . Now add 4-6 footers and he's done . Take a big power 40' V and a cat same size and power and those 4-6 footers are not gonna affect that cat and he's still going to be faster . In the end you just have to realize there's always going to be someone faster so you pick your battles wisely . Don't be the Jackass, and know that speed cost , sometimes money sometimes lives so decide what your willing to pay and enjoy what you have .. Piece ! |

My 30 Spectre ran 97 with my old 260's. I never tried to get a top speed with the 250XSs, but Mercury claimed they hit 101 with them. With 300s, the 30 will run over 100 all day. You can claim to run with cats with the same power, but cat people know they were just taking a scenic cruise.

Many of the boats you're comparing your P27 to in this thread are much bigger boats. If you want to compare it to a cat, compare it to a 28 Skater since it's more similar in length. The Skater (although still slightly bigger) will be at least 15% faster with similar power and it also run circles around you in the rough as well.
With that said, nice boat and respectable numbers. |
