My only guess is that whatever occurred on your maiden voyage is something new and that your fiberglass guy has removed repairs that existed previously. I can tell you without hesitation that the items you have identified were not due to a fix that I recently contracted for. She has been sitting, winterized in storage for the past 7 months and I have not touched one item on that boat. The hull you have today is the same hull, per your thread, that I ran in October.

Prior to listing the NT I had a clear conscious and even after reading this thread again today I don’t feel like I need to defend my word. But, I am in no way content with the fact that you are having to deal with this problem day 1 of your NT experience. I have spoken to you personally and I have spoken to Terry to try and learn more about the issue at hand. From his chair the initial repairs were shotty in some areas (to say the least) and he said the estimate will be in the thousands. Neither you nor I are a winner, at this stage, in this deal. With that said, I feel it is only right that I do something to help remediate and to get you back on the water. I have stroked Terry a $7K check to help with the repair – this will be in tomorrow’s mail. I am not a big money guy and that $7k was slotted for repairs on my recent purchase as she also began taking on water day 1, hour1. I am only mentioning that b/c I feel your frustration with a used boat.

Your thread started as a notice to all to perform the diligence and to take the extra step. Truthfully, I don’t know of a surveyor that would have noted this item as the boat was sound when I pulled her out in November and appeared sound when you first inspected. Again, I am sorry you are going to miss 2 months of the boating season but hopefully once this is corrected you have a great summer and get to enjoy the Tech as much as I did.

I also have some paperwork from NT on the 700’s (stamped as 700’s when I purchased) if you want me to email them to you. Just text/PM me your email.

Matt
I have been an active member here for almost 14 years and I think this is a first. Classy move. Thanks for proving that the actual boaters may be a brotherhood regardless of how some dealers and shops treat us.

Time for the Marina to step up and pay the rest of the bill.

I've heard more than a few stories about stuff going wrong on a new owner's maiden voyage, wouldn't a wild twist to this story be that unbenounced to the OP this damage was caused in that first run? Seems odd the seller would cover repair expenses if the repairs he orchestrated were in a completely different portion of the hull? bit the seller probably did collect some detail which led him to believe he was culpable to some extent

Having said that, i've been sanding my hull to the glass so I can re-paint it and I am finding quite a lot of damage that has been covered with paint and/or heavily epoxied to cover damage < 1/8". Is layering epoxy the right way to fix these smaller issues? Also the hull has undulations in it, maybe the result of being beat on for nearly 40 years. To best address this, should I; 1) fill in the undulations with epoxy and smooth it out, 2) sand this flat and even,,,I am leary of removing glass, it strikes me as weakening the boat and if anything I want to strengthen it. I love a sturdy heavy hull, for me, top speed isn't the only interesting activity in a boat .

OP - sorry for slightly hijacking...it is a slightly related question.

Terry has promised a new transom in a 47 Fountain prior to me dropping mine off so not a lot of work will be done in the next week or so. I will keep all updated on the repairs.
The blue stuff is a high performance bedding compound. Hitting that simply means he has broken through the surface skin which would be expected and considered normal on a repair of this level. Looks like ya got some Kevlar in there to.

The boat next to mine, a 47 Fountain didn't look like yours. It had triples and Terry said he had promised that transom repair before I dumped my problem on him.

I am from Clinton Iowa & have a place on the 19MM LOTO.
I have no doubts that it will be repaired right.

Terry is the man. Your boat will be fixed 100%, then he'll get back to grinding on mine. Sweet ride.
