I do think the fact each boat built got taken out, and ran thru the pace. Testing oil pressures, water pressures, temps, trim systems, electrical systems, and so on. I don't think you got that when you bought a new Baja, Formula, Powerquest, etc, let alone be able to call the factory 20 years after the boat was built, and get that documentation.

I'd imagine back then when your boat was built, they probably werent using GPS to get their speed numbers, or a radar. They probably were going off what they had in the boats at that time, which was probably an old pitot tube speedo.
They were tested by different people at different times. They had GPS and radar/ Here's mine

Mine was tested by Reggie. Not sure if the tested weight was with or without gold chains and satin jacket.

Mine was tested by Reggie and it hits within 1mph seems not to matter much load or temp. Kind of weird.

Formulas are tested in an indoor water tank. Wayne used to run every Sunsation (weather permitting) and they have a build book (or used to) showing everything done during production and who did it.

The slipperiness of the jacket in the wind overcomes the weight penalty of the chains!

Wonder why we don't hear more about these speed coatings? Doesn't WCM use a product like that also?

Another way to increase speed is to dial in the perfect center of gravity, sometimes even adding weight to the boat.

Wonder if 1000 islander would have used Bob if all the negative reviews were posted along with the positive.....and if the positive were "verified" to see if the user was one of the many tire kickers who call and chat with Bob about their dream build then refer him to all of OSO when they actually haven't even done Business yet! What about the 3 well respected engine builders that quit using Marine Kinetics recently.........good and bad reviews all contribute to this community, hopefully helping us all make informed decisions.

Keep us posted with any speed gains!
Aside from Bob m's friends or foes, the WCM name comes up, I have seen nothing but GOOD reviews about them blueprinting outdrive cases for speed, would really love to see what would happen to a triple fountain with it done, would cost about 15,000$ but hey, its only money! Seriously, makes you wonder what kinda speed gains average boats see with them!

At one point with my single engine Baja I spent alot of time welding, filling stock bravo drive hsg and nose cone with all metal and sanding, contouring it until it was pretty baddazz (like 20+ hours), at time the power I had got me to about 92/93 mph when everything was perfect. Sheared off a vertical shaft and sawed a hole thru case , struggled to get boat back to that speed with that power at that time with new housing , never got the next housing to ever work as good as that one with same hp,so I fully believe that lower housings are important, especially at higher speeds, Smitty
