I'm thinking the cost of insurance has more to do with the cost of the boat. I had a 70mph Sonic that I insured for 350 a year. 25k boat vs a 500k or more boat.

Ours are 2022s. I am pretty sure the V8 300R is an all new engine for 2021 or 2022 being first year. I recall the Mercury Racing press announcement from 2021. The base V8 300 is also a great motor just has less compression and I think gives up 5-600rpm at top end.

My agent told me that a lot of companies still classified CCs as "cruisers" and that was why the cost is still pretty reasonable on them.

Btw Mando, what kind of mpg are you seeing at cruise? Curious how your 400s compare to 300R. I don't have a ton of hours but I seem to be getting 1.5 at anywhere 40-55mph. Less when punching it hard of course and a lot higher when decelerating naturally but that seems to be about my average.

Randy Vance from Boating mag quoted 1.7mpg at 45-50 for the NT340 w trip 400Rs. See pic below.

Either way still seems to be about the highest mpg of any boat I've ever seen at ~50-55mph which is where I try and run on long trips. Has anyone seen higher mpg?

Not of any boat, albeit I ran at 45-50 for max MPG. I sold my 2014 34 NT this spring which was originally built with twin 300s for LOTO lake boating, so didn't need trips. It got 2MPG at around 40 MPH. In 2018 I re-rigged with twin 400Rs. Boat ran 70mph, rigged by Big Thunder marine with 22P Bravo 1s. Came on plane like a cannon with no bow rise at 2500-3000 rpm, unlike the 300s with revolutions props. Boat ran 70MPH top end. but cruised at 45-50 mph and sipped 1.9-2 mpg in that speed range. Really loved being right at 45-48 to maximize fuel burn. And the attitude of the boat, even in snot was drop dead perfect. Big Thunder rigged the engines one hole higher than NT rigged it with the 300s. And I ditched those revolution props in favor of the B1s. Like night and day different boat after the power up and re-rig. There is a threat in the NT section that talked about the re-rig.
