This website gets more ridiculous by the day. If the driver of this boat was a well respected member of OSO, he would be defended every way possible. Because he is not a member here, he needs to go to prison, a D-bag (insert) !! All you guys pile on like a pack of wolfs..It's so obvious everyone of you don't drink and drive, wear your lanyards, PFD on at all times and obey every single law there is! Must be a bunch of bubble boys! 5 pages of non-sense!!

Bit of truth there ^^ but I'm not as passionate about it as you are.
I think many of us (myself included) have been guilty of pushing the alcohol limit but that doesn't mean I can defend it.

As for jumping boat wakes, keep doing it, that's what these boats are designed to do.

The guy stuffed up, just make sure you're not the next one to do the same. 🙂

I don't car who you are..... There are procedures all Performance Boaters must do: DO NOT DRIVE AFTER DRINKING! I seriously do not care who you are, if you are BWI, You should go to jail forever.... If you want to know why I feel that way, let me know and I will send you the addresses of the parents and the story behind the 6 kids that were killed by a drunk driver. The second is wearing your lanyard while under way. IT IS NOT THAT TOUGH!

A close 3rd is wearing your Lifejacket. Buy a Lifeline and wear it, after the first few times out it becomes second nature and you feel funny without it.

That way, "driving" your boat hard is still risky, that is why we own offshore boats, but at least if something goes wrong, the safety measures will kick in.

That looks pretty cool, BUT, if you land slightly to the right, wind, angle of reentry, drive failure, whatever, probably going to torpedo the cruiser dude. Guess what, who's at fault ? You guessed it. Not the cruiser dude, and he probably has a better lawyer, or is one !!

Rarely happens. He did not hit the wake straight on enough. I have launched off cruiser wakes that big more times than I can count at LOTO........but not at the 65+ mph that he was supposedly going and certainly not while drunk. A friend of mine saw it happen.

Only been a few comments about a this guy drinking, jumping, losing control, and running over someone’s property.

its not near as close as it looks. I have lost more drives than i care to count and Never has my Cig veered anywhere.

Just be safe people and Always wear the lanyard.

Lost an outdrive on my new 93 28’ challenger from hitting a dead head submerged at 80 plus. Not a fun trip but manageable with a “death grip” on the helm. (Always when running hard)

Given it was the starboard side didn’t help matters much. The drive completely ripped off at the gimble. Shaft still in place and severed at the ujoint.

A month later after getting back from the factory for repairs and replacement and some run time same side popped out of gear at WOT due to mis proper cable adjustment. Not quite the same experience as the first however very similar. Was at least able to safely bring back to a stop. Both times were in 2 to 3 footers plus at close to 6k rpm - 80 plus.

I often wonder what it would’ve been like in today’s speeds.

What everyone has said is true, everyone has jumped a wake or two, you should be wearing your lanyard and PFD, times have changed at this site and people are quick to pass judgement.

The important thing is everyone reading this thread will now think about it, and what can happen if you do not boat responsible. I am sure if the owner or driver of the boat had to do it over again he may do things differently. Thankfully no one was killed, and hopefully no one was badly injured.

Everyone on this site and others, pride themselves on their boat or driving ability, obviously this guy now has this to live up to every time he is seen in his boat. Hopefully others can learn from his mistake.
