No payment so that helps. Storage cost is $900 per year. Insurance is $250 per year. Typically take the boat out ~20 days a year (1150/20=$57). Figure ~$200 per day for fuel. So...roughly $257 per day.
Back when I had payments and high personal property tax and other expenses, I'd calculated my cost of ownership at around $800 per day.
The folk with multi-hundred thousand dollar boats, stupid high insurance and storage fees...I am sure you don't really want to calculate it, lol!

Between the 2 boats spent 16-18 last year in storage, insurance, fuel. Maintenance on top of that.
We sleep on the cabin cruiser 3 nights a week, use the outerlimits on Sundays usually. Only used it 8 times last year. I won’t divide what I paid for them into this equation ever lol

Storage $500.00 a month until my building is done at LOTO, insurance $650.00 a month, fuel every time is a min. of 80 gallons going no where special and up to 400 gallons if we really run hard. May - October my guess is we will use the boat 60 days (this is one boat out of the fleet). There is NO WAY to make it equal sensible or rational, but what addictions are?

Living in virginia and having kids that play competitive soccer hurts the equation. We only use it a half a dozen times a year so when you factor in insurance, maintenance (both preventative and repair), taxes, cost of ownership of a second property to store it on, fuel, lunch costs, etc.... you realize what a terrible waste of resources it is. That said, i cant wait for summer!!!!

The silver lining in this thread will be for those unfortunate people (like me) who are currently boatless.
While ‘boatlessness’ is not exactly where I’d like to be at the moment, this is a great reminder of how much I should be saving each month towards my next purchase. 🙂

Having the boat on a hoist in the back yard absolutely helps. The wife is always commenting on the fuel usage. We went from a single 502 in a 5,000 pound boat to twin 454s in an 8,000 pound boat, a lot more feul. But, to us, the joy of being on the water and hanging with friends is absolutely worth it.
