I have one more question for you So far all the fountains I’ve looked at seem to be wet. This boat i. shared I got a call from a guy that flew to GA to look at it and he said it was wet. He then said he has 5k in surveys from wet fountains. Im not trying to start a brand war just curious. He flat out told me to look at Bajas that tend to be dry? What ever boat I buy will have a survey.

The stock tune runs pig rich, fouls plugs, has weird sporadic high idle situations, mine would even have a off idle hiccup and die right off idle, I dealt with it until I had to do head gaskets on them and then decided on other upgrades ( cam, heads ) I also had the ECMs reflashed at the time by the builder who’s
cam and head recipe I used and the difference was night and day all the above mentioned quirks were gone, so If they haven’t been done, I would highly recommend it.
sorry for all the questions. Where do I get the tune? Or what’s the process for tunes.

So John Teague sent me his info about his boat.

this what he had to say

Maybe 10 hours since I redid it last year. 4000 rpm cruise is 71 mph. Propped to go 105-110

The transom needed done from one gimbal leaking over the years with the previous owner. Stringers were still good. Fountains are notorious for wet transoms because the factory never ran good tailpipe seals

I did all the motor specs. I had van dyne engineering in Huntington Beach do the short blocks and valve jobs and I assembled the engines.

One piece tailpipes, all fresh plumbing.

It’s probably the freshest 38 fever in the country. Doesn’t leak a drop of anything

this is what he sent for build

Bottom Ends:
523 cubic inches
(4" stroke 4.560" bore)
- World Merlin Blocks
Callies rotating assemblies
(Internally balanced)
Custom CP dish pistons
-.200" wall pins
- Mahle rings (steel top/moly 2nd)
- 8.5:1 static compression
- Crane hydraulic roller cams
(256/264 duration @.050"
.632" total lift on 114LSA)
- Double roller timing chain
- Mellings HV-77 oil pumps
w/ ARP driveshafts
- ATI Super Dampers
- Dan Olson 12 qt pans
(Full windage trays and trap doors)

875 hp and torque. The drives are TCM upgraded -2 XR’s and they hold up good especially since the boat is just the right size to cruise fast without working the motors real hard

The motors were worn out, transom needed addressed. So I took it all the way apart and went all the way with it. The fresh motors should run 400 hours before needing a valve job I did not cut corners on the parts in them.

update: so I talked with John for 30-40 mins on the phone. He definitely knows his **** and has done everything to make this a reliable boat. It’s tough after talking with him I feel like he might be right this boat could be the best available fountain of its age and power available in the United States right now.

I still like the Baja as well. Still haven’t talked to that owner yet he was coming back from vacation today. And I flew to Vegas today for a 9 ball scotch doubles championship. I’m highly considering flying out to AZ for a afternoon to go for ride with John.

does anybody have anything to say about John or this boat?

man this boat shopping is a lot of work and stressful and I can’t wait to just be on the water and enjoying what ever we buy!

That’s a lot of boat! You might have to sell the buggy to maintain a boat like this one, cool boat though.

The fountain looks like a nice boat but you will be shocked at the cost to keep something like that going. Even if you do all your own work, if not well open the bank account.

Looks nice, the 38 Fevers had the most cockpit room over all the fountains other then a 42 side by side or 47.

I *really* dislike that engine hatch. I understand why it's like that, but my eye for clean lines would never tolerate that on a boat I owned.

I agree i dislike it as well. I’m looking at the boat because of who built it and the reputation behind it. The boat isn’t listed or wasn’t even intended to be sold. It’s like everything is just lining up.

I’m actually in Vegas now for a 9 ball Championship tournament.

I’m meeting John in lake Havasu at 2pm today to take the boat out.

Let’s see what happens.

Good luck with the shakedown cruise. A ride in a 100MPH Fountain that's running well will make you whip out your checkbook STAT.

But, make sure to take a deep breath and pause before pulling the trigger. It appears to be in great shape for it's age, but it is an old boat, with gigantic blower motors and a paint job only a mother could love...IMHO.
