I got family going thru their 1st hurricane in cape coral, boat on the lift, house is maybe 5-6 feet of elevation above the canal they live on.

i was out of town in august so the panels have been up since then, full cover on the boat, all else strapped/stowed in 32905.
always have 20-30 days of stores and bottled water, but it's a problem when i can't get the cannoli's & cheese cake for a couple days

I just learned that a friend of mine is stuck in Cape Coral riding it out. She said by the time they told them to evacuate, it was too late. 170 MPH winds in the eyewall per The WC.

Your friend isn't watching TV.........they have been calling for evacuation for days now! They have softened their request: "you don't need to go hundreds of miles, just tens of miles"

People always felt evacuation was supposed to be to NC or something, not sure why......... but literally the SW coast could go to Fort Lauderdale and be completely out of harms way.

I have extended family in Cape Coral, late 70's couple and they are adamant about staying in their one story house despite the surge threat. 78 yr old guy was tuning up his chain saw yesterday, which is admirable but it could seriously derail your life expectancy if you fall off a ladder trying to trim something........They have been S FL residents for years and feel that they can beat any storm but fail to take their age into account, they aren't 40 anymore!

Just looked at the weather channel, the reporter is by the seawall and the waves are coming over, the nearby pool is literally sloshing over from the wind.
