They took the risk going not sanctioned so not sure if it counts as any type of official record but seemed like a pretty awesome effort.
I dont think anyone is necessarily doubting the claim or saying they didn't do it or cheated. I think its mostly commentary on the fact that they are saying they broke all these record but providing zero data to support it is the incorrect way to go about things. There has to be some sort of standard to which a record is held. If they are not willing to pay a governing body, then they need to release data with the claim for people to verify.

Mercury has to be happy that a pair of 500R's out of the box didn't miss a beat.

40 or so yrs ago I won a kneel down OB hydroplane race in Laredo Tx.

I bought a tee shirt there because it said, “Laredo OB World Championship”, and I won one of the classes there so….

Several yrs later I bumped into an X w/her new beau and she introduced me to him as a world championship boat racer!

She had that the shirt that said I was so….

If they have AIS connected with their Garmin then you can document the run. Look forward to more info from the Howe’s

Odd responses here..........I'd bet some want to see their birth certificates to make sure they are American too!

Its an amazing feat to run a boat offshore the length of the east coast..........any boat, never mind running one at speed! I've never ran a boat more than a few hundred miles in a weekend (Miami- Key West for example).
Now the fact the guy runs a brand new catamaran with his wife is another amazing feat, very few people have spouses that are on board with that journey or have a boat that would be able to complete that run.

I've watched about 30 seconds of their videos, they seem to have fun making them and they have had awesome boats. If I ever met them I'd buy them a round of drinks and dinner!

Congratulations to them and whatever records they earned!

In a world of Dan Bilzerians with people doing anything for YouTube/Instagram/Facebook/TikTok views and followers, there are a lot of us that take headlines like "We broke the record!" with a huge grain of salt. It sucks but it's just the world we live in nowadays. Even the community doing the completely unsanctioned Cannonball Run nowadays have to show telemetry data and prove they did it before claiming a time to the community.

I'm happy for them and certainly respect the trip they made. They deserve an atta boy just for doing it. I know I wouldn't put my body through that. I'll definitely watch the video(s) that show the trip when they come out.

Real-time is a thing. Had my nephew on our boat, his hat flew off, so I U turned and picked it up, we were way off Marco with maybe 1 bar left on 5G. 2 minutes later my brother calls me from land to check on what happened to our course and speed, since he was following the live track on the garmin inreach link I sent him before we left, though I think it is 10 min intervals on the map. It's not terribly expensive, $12 a month. Personally, after 5 hours non-stop on plane driving the boat last week, that was enough for me and ducked into the ICW.

Bottom line, if you call it a “world record” attempt, expect a couple of us to read the fine print.

An amazing run!

”World Record” run?????

The title of this thread is:

”World Record Attempt”
