Congrats! I'm so very pleased that the deal worked out for you. You had done Your homework though and knew what You wanted, plus had
the buyer for Your boat already in the bag. Keep us posted on Your new adventures with this baby. Happy Boating, kind regards, Lars.

None of the 575's had roller lifters from the factory. All were flat tappet. If that one has already been upgraded to a roller, you are a step ahead. I had one of the very last 575's made. I think there were only 4 or 5 serial numbers after mine and this was in a new 05 model boat. I would be curious as to where he found a new 575 10+ years after they quit making them.

I am sure it will be a 256 Weiand. Yeah, I'm not scared of a 20yr old flat tappet cam but I sure wouldn't use one today. Nothing but bad stories lately about them going flat. I tore mine down at 100hrs to do some upgrades and the head gaskets looked like they were minutes from failing. They just used a cheap composite gasket. Looks like that has been addressed with this engine.
I am certainly not the world's foremost authority on the 575SCI, but I know them very well. If you need any specific info on building one up I am more than willing to tell you the little quirks specific to this engine that is easily overlooked.

Every cam i have ever seen go flat was because the wrong oil was used. when the cam is new if its going to go flat it will happen in the first 100 miles most of the time. And its also the lifter not turning in the bore, i mark the top of the lifter and rotate the cam gear with my hand with the timing chain off and watch the top of the lifter, if you have a lifter not rotating just keep moving them around until they all rotate. Old trick i learned years ago. I have never had a big block cam go flat and i have built probable 40 through the years with flat tappets.

Interesting when you look up head gasket on the 575 sci through mercury racing it is a cometic gasket, i found a guy on the baja forum that had a 575sci later model that had factory installed cometic gaskets. What is this Blower shop blower upgrade all about for the 575sci? is it a better blower than factory?

I’m already taching ours out with the stock 28. According to the numbers, the WOT RPM of the Merc 496 is 5000, and I can get 5200 or so out of it. I would like to try a Hydromotive 27 or 28, being that they are typically pretty true to their numbers while Merc props are usually overstated on pitch. I would also like to send a 28 to Brett ( or whoever) and have it labbed, thinned and pitched/cupped up to 29. I really think that would be the ideal prop for our setup.
Thanks. Brad.
