The reason it's not flying anymore is your not getting your moneys worth.
$500-$1000 for non coming DVD's and crappy food...
I'll use OSO get a bunch of like minded power boaters and have fun without anyone getting stiffed since I don't charge anything!
Why would I drive 700 miles pay for all the gas - truck and boat - to go in a lake I have friends at thru OSO anyway and have to pay $1000 to spend the WE over and above??? I'll go any other WE have the same fun and save the $1000.

Sounds like a plan GLH!! That is one of the biggest things about that run that I remember like it was yesterday....the gray hamburgers and the lousy pasta salad!!! For $500.00 to $600.00!!! Not me, I took 8 people out to dinner at the Haverstraw Marina resturant (can't remember the name) great food and drink and the bill was $250.00 with the tip.
Downtown, what run are you talking about? '99 or this year?

28 apache with 600 horse 509's. Hit a hole at 80+ came down on it's starboard side and ejected four of the five on the boat. Other guys were also hurt, broken legs and jaws, blown out knees. To much friggin' traffic in that harbor!!

What everyone is saying is true-I especially agree about the 2 tiers of Poker Runs. The CBPBA has been doing PRs for at least 15 years and we have never changed the format. We keep costs down, fun up, and try and make sure everyone gets fed. This weekend we are doing one to benefit the Leukemia Society and due to the demise of Thunder on the Bay we will likely have 70 boats. They will run from 20 to 140 and will be spread out by miles between the stops. And it will be great fun. I think of it like golf tournaments-there are the Pros on TV and club players, where there is no money, there is a lot of fun, and sometimes the other way around

I agree with ya R!
As far as intimidation, and not being treated with respect? I have to say I have not experienced that in either NPBA or NJPPC Poker Run Clubs. No one turned me away even after I told them I planned on running a 13 ft Vee Bottom with 100 hp strapped to the back of it.
I enjoyed all the runs that I entered that boat in.
I strategically planned my route on all events so I could manage to run it safely and not be in anyone's way.
In NY 2002 I was on the front line with the 70 to 100 mph group. When that flagged dropped, I had the fastest whole shot and manage to move over to the west side of the Hudson. This way everyone could pass me on my right and I didn't end up in all the wash from the larger boats. It worked out well.
If I had to do it again, I wouldn't change a thing....
Ok, maybe I would run the 28 Checkmate instead.....

A picture coming up on the front line.
