The piston to valve clearence with those pistons is quite large. Easily enough for any cam you would want in a marine engine. To answer the original question, I bet the hp peak would be 4600 using the parts specified. And I would guess that it makes about 450 hp but about 700 ft.lbs. of torque.

When you talk to Bob have the cam ground for the final setup. Such as heads you plan on using (flow #'s) intake and final carb CFM. I did pretty much what you are doing when I built my High strung 454's. I put the best inside them when they were apart. Then I added heads, intakes and carbs later. I knew that I had a lot of Potential power, I just had to finish the recipe.

well theyre already apart and when they go back back together they are what they are. im not the type of person to run it on the dyno, then swap a cam just to see what happens.
i would hope the guys that build engines for a living could be somewhere in the ballpark when they tell us what we need.

IMHO that cam is a poor choice for a 540 ci N/A engine. The bigger cubic inch engines like a wider LSA like 112 - 114 and I would increase the duration and lift. Those heads will support .650 lift with mild work, it would be nice to add compression but not a requirement. I also would spread the intake and exhaust duration, adding 6 -8 degrees of exhaust duration to the intake duration. Good thing about dynoing, when engines come back, the carbs are jetted perfectly. Timing is set and set to where engnes make most power(without detonating), and you dont have to worry about any leaks AFTER the engines are installed! You dont have to worry about anything, just install engines and ready to go. ALL tuning is done. Well worth the money IMO..........You will know exactly the HP and the torque. Will also help Brett at Bblades set your props up..do it!!!!
