Realistically, I like the remove the door trim, maybe take the rubrail off if not too much work, should give you the 3 inches.

Don't forget the lubricant!

What is the distance between the 2 metal tracks the door rides in? If you can clear between them it shouldnt be too hard.

Most doors are trimmed around the inside of the opening with a 2x6. Then a 2x4 is nailed on the flat on the interior of the buiding. the edge of the 2x4 is held fush with the inside of the opening / 2x6. If you can remove the door weatherstrip then remove the 2x6 then notch the 2x4 you may make it work. If you have metal trim of course you will have to remove that first. Really not as bad as it sounds.

Reassemble with screws so it will be easy to take apart again.

Take a string 8 feet long, see how far you must raise it to clear sides, if you have the headroom build a ramp for one side and carefully back in.

BUT, if you plan on installing the motor/drive and other stuff while it's inside over the winter, how do you plan to get it back out?

Sounds like a good excuse to build a bigger garage.
