I built mine from wood you might have seen it on here. I see you want steel but if you change your mind let me know. I believe I still have the plans.

I prep everything for removal then call my local tow truck operator to bring his truck with the large boom and we remove the engines in about 1/2 hr. each. Cost me about $100.

Will not be high enough to pull engines from many boats. Mine is 12' and I have a steel beam. By the time I hook a chain hoist its at 10'.
Not high enough to pull the engines on my 32 AT, but probably would have worked for my 28 Pantera.

Anyone on here build there own gantry for engine pulling, I remember seeing a wooden one but I'd prefer steel when the time comes, actually like to pull it just to check everything outand cean up bilge.

I built my own gantry crane like the one from Harbor Freight but better.

Ramos45,
I'd love to see a copy as well. I've PM'd you my email address.

Thanks,

I have the harbor freight one. There are 8 bolt holes at the top that hold the I-beam to the frame. I basically slid the beam over one bolt hole so that only 6 bolts are holding it. That buys you several inches on both sides. The width between mine is 103.5 inches.

My cafe tapers in the back so it wasn't a problem even at the normal install method, but I just spread it to give me some extra space.

I also have the harbor freight trolley and chain hoist. A nice adjustable spreader bar is also worth the 50 bucks.

I've pulled and r&r'd my engines about a dozen times in the last few years and will be doing so next weekend. Once you've done it you realize it is easier than winterizing it. I'll have both of them on the ground in the garage before lunch including crane set up, hatch removal, etc. if you have the place to do it, it's a real money saving skillset

The op has a 29 scarab. Last one i worked on with twin 350 small blocks was horrible . Worse than a 27'sleek with 2 big blocks, you drop a tool under the motor your not gettong it back till the engine is out.
i sure am glad that boat got sold off and is gone ..

If not already mentioned, rent a forklift with a fork extension. Rent for around 250-300 per day.
