But what do I know, because I didn't build my last boat motor. yes, I had S30 do my 509, because he had the equipment to pull the motor (that I don't have) and worked at a machine shop I trusted that could do everything else that needed done. So my boat was sitting 5 hrs from my house. Truthfully not worth the time to haul it back and forth when it could be done and done well right there.

This isn't Mike's first rodeo with engines. He doesnt need to be told who he should, or shouldnt listen to.

I'll be the first one to say I've learned a thing or two from Mike, and I'm sure he will tell you, he's learned a thing or two from me over the years we have been friends. At the end of the day, I've had good times with Mike, Icdedppl, KVogt, and many others here, in person, whether it has been working on things, dynoing engines, discussing things, boating, or sharing a few cocktails, and learned a few things from all of them. And that right there, is what it's all about.

zone,i am not new at this engine build thing, that being said since i started working with bob madera all projects have produced good numbers.some don,t care for bob, some don,t care for straub/foxwell.i am pleased with bob and i think he is a sharp guy so i will continue to work with him.a couple of my close friends don,t care for bob but they are still my friends and i am sure that wont change.one thing is for sure,we are all entitled to our opinions and as long as oso rules are not broken we can speak our minds.in my mind the tech section has turned into something other than tech conversation and some of the sharpest guys don,t post anymore because of the crap that has been spewed lately,jmo/

I wish you guys would drop this one. There's obviously a lot of knowledge hashing it out here but it's not the conducive learning environment that a tech section would want to be.

There's no single engine recipe that is the nuts, it's about compromise and some of the factors in a build's success can't readily be quantified.

Orlandi, Tkach, and Mild have all helped me in one way or another and I enjoy/appreciate that but sometimes it's best to step away. Can we just agree to disagree about who did what?

Lol, ya Mike, I do. But this is one just 'tarded, and that's against my religion. There are no engine gods (well maybe Sterling), everyone has made mistakes in the past and repeatedly hashing them out has no positive effect.

When something you're engaged in has 0 positive effect on your life, long term or short, it's 'tarded.

Let's not be 'tards. :)

I am confused that if 305/315's are the way to go why I was advised 325's.... A year later the info I see now bugs me but oh well, guess I will have good heads for blowers one day!!

phragle 11-17-2015 07:18 PM

So what rectangle port head does one put on a 454 mag to make 525 hp?? you know that question is going to come up at least 4 times (if not 6) before the season starts again.....

Just post a few pics of some of the engines you've built. What's in your shop now? You're pretty good at posting pics of something I built.

Oh yeah, you don't build anything, you just talk the talk. There's one on every Internet site.

Well I think myself, joe and also you do our own stuff with help of others... Not one of us do it 100% on own... So it really does not matter, I seen pics with joe wrenchin in Facebook and tons with him helping Dan, same as me with scott helping me assemble.... So I take it as a stab to myself also... Most of us here are do it yourself ers that donut for budget reasons, fun, and learning... Not one of us was born as a pro...

Be very careful who you get friendly with. I will leave it at that. There is a lot of history with certain characters on this thread that is causing the emotion. A lot of it is not good history.

Some are playing nice, and they usually aren't.

Some are playing bad, and they usually aren't.

Some are playing bad and they usually are.

Be careful.

And since this thread has lost most of it's appeal, I'm going over to Hardcore sledder in the general section. Atleast with those brutal battles I don't know anyone.

So true, I got on here to learn things.... Now I watch train wrecks in slow motion, entertaining at times but generally useless drivel.

Dan was correct, i was at a wake for a friend of mine, which tends to put things into perspective.

My friend Nick, was a father of 2. I met him about 15 years ago, when I worked for the state of illinois highway department back then. I was just a kid, out in the workforce, Nick, had been there for years at that time. He took me under his wing, schooled me, and overall made me part of the team. Anyhow, the guy worked two jobs his entire life, one working for the highway dept, the other as a part time police officer. He was a family man, and took good care of his wife and kids, putting them thru private schools, and all that. He recently retired from the state, and continued working as a police officer. His kids are now grown. He saved and saved his cash from his side jobs, and just this spring, finally bought himself the classic car he has wanted for so long. It was a 69 impala, clean car, nothing super fancy. He was so excited about cleaning up the original 327, and taking it to shows. He even had a vanity plate made for it, which said "My Time".

A month ago he went to the doctor with stomach pain that was bothering him. Come to find out, he had liver cancer. He spent the last month, in the hospital, getting all kinds of treatments, until there was nothing left to do. He was released last friday under the care of hospice, and died in his sleep the next morning. 6 weeks ago, he was waxing his dream car enjoying life, and today, he lie in a casket , leaving behind his wife and children.

And yet, we are here, arguing like a bunch of spoiled kids (myself included) over the best way to make horsepower for our offshore high performance boats. Nick would have gave his left nut, to have any of the engines most of us have, let alone a boat.

My real regrets tonight, are not being able to shake my friends hand one last time thanking him for being a good friend to me, before he passed. Sorry to get off topic, and debbie downer this party, but , its where im at in the moment. Nick thought it was "my time" , and it was, just in an entirely different manner.

Rather than continue arguing on this thread over nonsense, I will step back this evening, and be thankful for what I have going.

Scott, I've been doing business with Chris since 2004. I've known of you since about then too. Chris and I became friends through our business dealings and when I decided to do this full time as a profession, I left CA and took a job offer form Chris in 2013. I work for/with Chris now, but LOL... "Straub Lover"?? Come on, man. One of these days you're just going to have to move on from the past. Most of the rest of us have. ;)

joe, sorry to hear about your friend.i remember the days when i was always going to weddings, grad parties and those kind of things.lately it seems like i go to wakes a lot so yes,it does put things in perspective.when a good friend of mine left this world early he had a z06 corvette that he dreamed about until he finally got it.to bad he did not have a lot of time to enjoy it before he passed. he made it clear that he hoped i would buy the car after he passed.i promised him in his hospice bed that i would, and i did.sorry for rambling but your post made me think of it.

There was no other inuendo, and I made that clear.
I was showing the extreme.
Would not be right if I said friendly and not friendly.

Your attitude has not moved on from the past. I checked on in PB's earlier and you are slamming people over there that don't agree with you. You got bagged for advertising without site sponsorship, selling parts, and treating others like schit over there and you changed your name there too and blamed those you don't get along with.

Your Just pretending to be since you switched names here.

I stayed out of this thread...but you now just provoked me.

I don't really want to go any further than this in this thread if you don't mind. Will you agree to this ?
