For my 3.5cc boat, for example, there is a Ø.040" hole in the face of the rudder blade, and I use a ziptie on the hose connected to the outlet nipple on top of the rudder blade, restricting flow. I am amazed at how much water that Ø.040" hole puts through the system. Some have even gone to the point of putting a needle valve in line, so they can adjust it with a flow meter to account for ambient water temps. This is done to keep from over cooling the engine, but it would work the same for this application as well, in controlling pressure. Obviously, more than a zip tie would be required, but I could see an orifice "pill" used to accomplish the same thing. Or, as Saris mentioned, adjusting the depth of the pickup? As an alternative to multiple dumps? Just wondering....

Thanks. Brad.
If the second dump didn't work then that was my next option but with it the pressure is absolutely perfect. I have the blower shop chiller so there was already a port was just a matter of making a second water dump for the transom. You can see the ones I made on there right above the steering hoses...the big hole is for the IC and the small holes are intake manifold dumps. Didn't want a bunch of different dumps so made them the same so it looks a little more uniform...just my OCD talking hahaha

But yes what you're saying would work but I knew I had X amount of flow available and figured if I could get it done with the same amount IE another dump then it's that much more flow running through the IC which will keep it cooler longer...at least in my mind it works that way hahaha

BBYSTWY,

And there is the difference, I guess. In our model boat application, we were intentionally restricting FLOW, to increase head temps, as even those tiny holes cooled the head TOO much, and you're trying to not burst an IC. I guess we can never cool an interCOOLER too much, can we?

Carry on....

Thanks. Brad.

Roger, I figured there was a reason why they werent popular. I'll stick to the tried and true transom mounts

So is your water coming from the outdrive or from a pick up tube? Do you have a pic of the plumbing?

Water comes through the Imco lower unit, -20 hose from transom to the strainer then -20 feed to the 2 stage pump then -16 to the engine and a -12 to the intercooler then out of the cooler to a transom dump

EDIT: kind of hard to see 2 stage pump is below the filter head

Idle is definitely better with a seperate pickup. On a MOAC it`s a must

I`ve always used a hole saw, what is the point of this?

Thank you. I waa debating of running 2 separate lines 1 from the transom pickup to raw water strainer to 2 stage water pump to closed cooling 700sci and the other from outdrive to 2 stage pump to sand strainer then to intercooler OR putting it all through 1 line from the raw water strainer? If that makes sense.

But if yours cools fine coming from only the outdrive to a 2 stage pump then to sand strainer and intercooler .... then i think I should be ok.
