Rebuilt engines in progress

A set of 502 600's are being turned into 540 700's,

This is for the 97 Kevlar 38 Top Gun.

From time to time we will post progress shots.

The 2nd-3rd pics are of the culprits responsible for the rebuilds.

Bad gears in a blower let the rotors beat together sending many particles of metal down to the cylinders and chewing at the cylinder walls. Ouch!

The top pic is what they looked like before we started.

Hey, I recognize that shop! Looks like Dave Wessledyke's shop of WESCO. Lot's of nice new parts. He's got everything laid out in nice, neat order.

I see part of a YELLA engine in a plastic bag in post #2 off in the upper left hand corner of the picture----I wonder who that belongs to? :D

Lookin' good Dennis! You definately are in good hands!

Blowers are crap. Only 214 hours and both were shot. Have a new set of 871's on the way.

It will be ready for the FPBC Hawk's Cay run in January. :D

Roger on ther Dyno (good eye).

They were Hawk 600 enignes and B&M blowers. They can be rebuilt if somebody is interested. I elected to go with a bigger blower so the bearings did not work as hard.

If you below Crazy Horse corrected me. Holley units.

How did he get the rust out of the water passages?

They did mine with stainless shot blast cabnet that turns. It did not do a good job :( i have heard of a acid wash that gets all of it.

Thanks

Rob

Re: Rebuilt engines in progress

We haven't figured the rust part out yet. I knew the port engine was apart before but the starboard was to have never been touched. It had a different set of gaskets so we figured it has been apart.

Did not clean out the passages. According to my buddy Dave it is actually better to leave it in there. He said it forms a coating which actually inhibits additional rusting.
