Just curious what application requires a tank? I have had 2 WPM full hydraulic systems and never used a tank. One was a single ram and the one I have now is dual ram. WPM sells tanks but said they weren't required on the systems I have had.

They are not required. My PS reservoir was always leaking, then dripping down on to my alternator and making a mess. I'm thinking the tank would solve that issue. Someone else on OSO said not to bother using the extra tank. I might have trouble finding a location for the tank that is higher than the PS pump anyway. My engine hatch BARELY clears my motor.

You need one of these fancy dancy home made P.S / alternator brackets that gets your pump down, so you can see the motor and not just a big ol GM power steering pump when you open the hatch.

I needed to add one to my system, because I was unable to purge the air from it. The engine would be running and taking fluid. Once we shut it off, the system would burp and puke fluid all over. With the tank, that problem has gone away.

Have to wonder why?

I do not have a tank for my dual ram Latham W/ char lynn helm (sp)? and have never seen a reason. Self purged within a few minutes and has been working great ever since.

You know, I never bothered to find out why. Every time it burped, I had such a mess, that I immediatly added the tank.
