P5 28' length limit
#22
I agree with alot of what everyone is saying. The P classes are a great stepping stone for people wanting to get there feet wett in the sport and possibly move in to the Pro Series Classes.
Problem I have is how these classes are designated for the general public to understand and even the racers themselves. By having the P1-5 designation it reduces the amount of space available for names, sponors, etc. In the p5 class alone you would need at least a 28ft boat just so you could fit the number and your name/sponsor on the side of the boat. I think going back to a letter designation would be a great idea for the Performance Classes. A-Z or whatever letters were felt could work.
Just a suggestion, not trying to stir up any feathers here. Just would like to see what other people think about this. Oviously knowing that if it was changed it could no be implemented til the 2004 season any way.

WOW!!! Some really good ideas developing here. I'm new to the sport as a racer and plan on entering a 24' Pantera in P5 (or what ever this ends up as). After following this sport for many years it seams that there is no real solution for this issue. The 28' max in P5 is a start but even that 4' makes a big differance in the BIG WATER (Twin engines don't know). For me I just want to race, have fun and maybe win a few. I met some great guys so far in OPA (Augie,Ed,Kurt,Bob,Mark,Ron) and far to many more to list ( OH you too Randy ) all willing to help and share what they know. I think the more feedback that's provided from us the better we can make this. Face it were not in it for the money. OPA, SBI and APBA know what the issues are and looking to us as racers to provide some input to fix and make what we do better and more level. You guys/gals out there know more about what makes it click better then I do. Speak up were getting close.
