Grand Haven, MI exhaust...

Exactly, the course setup etc. for the wideopen pass is the main issue the law has not been changed yet in MI. Professor Radcliffe from MSU, the MI Legislature, and the MI Lake and Stream Assoc. have been developing a "Noise Gun" to monitor boat noise. They have finished the testing with the DNR, some Sheriff's departments, and it is currently under patent applications. It measures boat noise, background noise, and distance from the boat then calculates the noise as if the boat was running the 25 foot test through the course. It was accurate within plus or minus 2 decibles out to over 300 feet. If they get the patents and change the law, that is when we will have our hands full. Currently, the 75db from shore and the idle test are all that will hold up in court.

As I told the officer over the weekend that issued me a noise ticket , I not mad becausse you are checking me for noise, I am mad because A: You did not do the test properly, so I did not stand a chance of passing, and B: You have no concern for safety, you never really bothered with our safety ( as we drifted in the middle of the channel in front of all the traffic) or safety equipment aboard the boat. Simple

As others have said, would love to have more of you visit St.Joe and South Haven areas. Not a single problem down here. Got inspected by the CG at venitian and the only thing said about my exhaust was "Man that boat sounds sweet, what you got in it".

I can't remember what thread I read about some guy who complains about the noise that bought a condo near on or very close to the Grand Haven beach/river area and said it sounds like he's standing in the middle of a highway median.
I guess he expects it to be quiet since he bought his condo! Do you think he should have done a little research BEFORE he bought the property?
Sorry, but it's NOT a perfect world----you're going to hear some recrational racket on the water 3-4 months out the year around Michigan! I suppose 3-4 months out of 12 isn't too bad.
