Gotta admit I am surprised at insurance for damage while running, never thought about that.

My boat is cheap, maybe 12k? Originally I wasn't worried about insurance, but then I read about recovery cost if you sink and you can't leave it down there. Or if you need a tow and then there is the liability aspect of it. So I needed insurance for a total loss sinking or a liability suit pretty much.

I tried wake zone, but boat is too old. Looked at a few different companies and no luck. Stacey sent me to someone else and all they did was quote me progressive marked up higher. So here I am with progressive. Hopefully I never need them. I know I won't for a busted drive unless it results in a sink. Or hail damage on a old boat like his one. But if it gets stolen, sinks or is involved in an accident, I hope it goes ok.

Avoid Progressive at any cost. If you want to know more then I will dig up my horror story. I'd have pulled my boat home and sued them but it would have meant the end of my boating season. I caught them red handed not replacing parts that were charged out. They showed me my old prop shaft and I proved it wasn't mine because I had pictures of the original showing the numbers on it. It was bent. I should have called the police and my attorney right then but I wanted to go boating. I was rear-ended in traffic and the driver ticketed.

Wake Zone is not an insurance company. Nothing against them but I hope those that say they have Wake Zone realize they're insured by who ever Wake Zone finds to write the policy.

yea, but what do people with 25+ year old boats worth <$15k do? I only need major coverage for total loss, marine recovery and liability. The total loss is secondary, that would be minor compared to liability or a salvage.

If I lose an engine or bust a drive, I will pay for that. Already replaced all that anyways. Not sure what other options someone like me has.

Now, progressive tells me I have full coverage to include medical, towing, roadside and trailer coverage, recovery, theft, etc..... But how much coverage do I expect for $400 a year on a twin engine offshore boat? Other options?

Thank you for clarifying that... I am positive that each and every one of our clients is well aware that we are not their insurance company but rather their insurance AGENT.

Legal name of our company is: Wake Zone Marine Insurance Brokerage Inc.

It's really not uncommon though for people to say they are with "XYZ Company" when in fact "XYZ" is an agency, not an insurance company. I guess it's like saying you're with an investment brokerage firm like Ameriprise.... you are with "Ameriprise" but your actual money is invested elsewhere....

In the brokerage world whatever agency you're with owns the rights to your policy. Meaning, if Joe Smith comes to Wake Zone to insure his boat and through our carrier contracts I place him with ABC Insurance Company. Joe's insurance policy will be written by ABC Insurance but owned by Wake Zone. In the event that Wake Zone severs its contract with ABC Insurance Joe will remain a client of Wake Zone and Wake Zone will place the business with another carrier....

One more comment and I'll shut up ... The whole point of using an agent over going direct to a carrier is so that in the event of a claim, you have a knowledgeable representative working in your favor. When you are a client of Wake Zone we represent YOU, not the insurance company.

My Progressive agent teamed up with the shop to cut any corner possible. Parts were not replaced that were billed out. Major parts. The boat was returned to me with the bent prop shaft and trailer coupler but those parts and labor were charged out. When I asked to see my old prop shaft they showed me one. It wasn't mine! I had before pics that showed the numbers etched in it. My agent told me I was real close to being on my own. I told him he should be on my side and he was real close to being sued. They agreed to replace the prop shaft "again" and the coupler was an "oversight". No one I get get in contact with at Progressive cared so this must be their MO. Long story. Now I am insured with All-State and it is cheaper.

you blame progessive here but you never say anything about the shop doing the work ??? i dont get it. you say parts were billed out but not replaced so im guessing progressive paid the bill and they also got screwed.id say if you left with a bent propshaft they are a very incompotent shop
