wow your out already must be nice I sat at home all weekend guess the same for the 4th I feel, but hey john that back seat doesn't seem right was the back rest up a few inches so the seat slid under a little, I have a queston on the fuel line and hatch piston I found to wires Ithought would plug in one does but the other is female to female it looks also thinking about using aftermarket hd stock motor mounts cause theres that glassed in wedge that might hit a gil or off shore mount. the konrad looks ace on there I am looking at ernies sutphen tomorrow measure height of blower so I can order a scoop or make a old school hatch like on the 41. I can't believe its been 8 mons and still no motor at that time it was already sitting at his shop for 14mons well 2yrs in aug 28th. Iwould of picked it up then if I new I was getting screwed with no lube:eek:. I am going to get the reg done this week incase theres a bug but I am not worried. with the 509 650 hp raised drive 78 would be tops I think with a 1000hp96 to 100 and 1050 to 1175 I think 100 to 110 if that drive height is good for 6mph like we think. winter time Iwill sell the seats or have ppi make them wider on the sides and higher with the in out look, if they weren't power Iwould put my custom ones from the baja in.
|
hey if you come up north we should meet only if I have the boat in the water though:coolcowboy:, that way you can try it, if it runs great then forgoten but if its bad its going right up to maine and being made into a hyd roller and will still make 1000hp. I THINK we raised the x up 3'' getting steering lines extended and will use the trim out of the baja, do you now if they make extensions to put on the red trim cable outside the boat or do you think Ishould just buy new cable. get back to me on the saber thread so I am not filling this thread up with saber stuff hahha but we should hook up for the pokerruns here we got july maine, aug RI fallriver mass one then the big one in sept in fairhaven with the NY owner of the marina later thanks your a good guy.Igot to go wipe my eyes later:picard1::picard1:

Just picked up my motor from Rudy. Looks good. Hopefully John will call me back and we can throw this puppy in....:party-smiley-004: Might even be some captain in it for him....:coolcowboy:
|
Motor ran good yesterday. Primed and fired up at Rudy's shop, sounded real strong. he did some fiddling with the carb and off I went. the girl and I put in at the goose and ran down to Lloyds. I can now cruise at 3500rpm at about 55mph and keep the oil temps at a nice and stable 220ºF. Pulled hard up to 5500rpm, and was climbing past 90mph with ease when i got out of it. Should pull to at least 6000rpm with this prop, so maybe 100mph even. Not to mention that there is still a bit more timing that can be put in to it, plus Rudy needs to come for a ride and get the jetting and carb set up right. Would barely idle in gear. I am very pleased though.
|
Cool man. Glad you were able to get out. That's a nice cruise with even oil temps. Let me know when your back in town so we can run.
|
YO JDUBB.... hows abouts dem shirts pretty boy:kiss:
|
I was told they should be done this week :angry-smiley-038: Same old schit...they are backed up, short on staff...blah blah blah.

Here you go John, always videos of you. A bit shaky but sounds pretty good. :coolcowboy: |
Nice.....I promise I'll get some of you running. I'll just have to borrower your camera :lolhit:
|
What is the plan for tomorrow? Chuck is making a run to Wild Duck for lunch, not in the bat though, in the formula, then they are going to Still pond for the rest of the day.
I will be a bit late getting in because Loretta has to work in the morning. Hopefully I will be able to get in by 1230 or so. I am considering putting in at DE City and running down the canal with you depending on what time you put in. Le tme know. |

I'll throw in another pic to sweeten the deal :drink: |
thanks man. I didnt realize I threw that much of a rooster though. :party-smiley-004:
We had a good day yesterday, ran back up the canal after leaving the Inn in the dark, it was a cool ride for sure. |
So I changed my outdrive oil yesterday. The oil overall looked fantastic, no metal flakes in it like the last time I changed it, which was mostly just the break in flakes that Bravo style drives put out. There were however three or four decent sized chunks of metal on the magnets, one on the lower magnet and the rest on the upper. Pulled off the back cap to check out the upper gears and didnt really like what I found. The Lower drive gear is pretty smooth, as to be expected, and on what looked like 4 or 5 teeth had one small spot of pitting on each, which is I assume where the metal flake/chunks came from. They werent from the tip of the tooth, but deep into the groove where the tips of the pinion gear is hitting and wearing. Soooo long story short, it looks like an upper rebuild is coming up in the near future for me.
Anyone recommend a drive shop? I am going to continue running it, probably change the oil out again in 10 hours and recheck. I am half considering getting a Left hand bravo and running in reverse, as the upper gear is perfect. It really wasnt in the budget for this right now, so hopefully I can make it to winter without destroying the case or doing any permanent damage. Hey Don, you still have that -3 upper? Interested in selling it? Might be time for a spare for me. |
im saving it so I have all the stuff to put together my krypto when get the new cat..
|
PHILM-i know a shop who can help you out--he does my big boat and is close to you. nice krypontite also--whats that run?
|
Hey Kilr,
Thanks man, I will keep that in mind when i decide to have it done. The boat used to run a bit over 100mph, best I saw was 102mph with 800hp. Just had a rebuild done on the motor after dropping a valve last year at 59 hours. Changed to hydraulic cam and lifters, a bit milder setup. It will run a solid 90 full of fuel and people, and mid to high 90s running on empty. I was hoping to break 100 again, but right now I am happy that I have a motor that will last for a couple hundred hours. |
What was the HP on the dyno?
|
Didn't dyno it. The engine builder was thinking that we would make more power than we did before, because it had a massive cam in it, too big really, but I dont think we are making more power.
I am still in the break in period somewhat, and still have a couple more degrees of timing to put in it, plus the carb could use a bit of tweaking, but I am pretty happy with it. |
I'm suprise thr engine was so bent out of shape. Was the reason it blew because the springs were set all at 18? I know John had that motor set up extremly aggresivley. Either way, it's great your using an egnine builder close to your area. There's no price one can put on having your mechanic 10 minutes from your boating area and have you back up and running same day!!
|
Guys I'm on my iPhone... That post above is barley literate-- my badd. Anyways I got the shirts today John. They look badasss! Great Job.
|
No, having them set at 18 was actually better for the life of the motor. The reason it blew was because 175# springs were used even though everything called for 225# springs with that amount of lift, solid lifters, duration, and ramp rates. It was a ticking time bomb until a valve floated and kissed a piston.
Dont even get me started about all the other stuff that was done wrong, some of it can be attributed to different engine building theories, but other things cannot. For example, the bolts for the Jesel belt drive were a tad too long, which was solved by doubling the gaskets under it, which then caused it to hit the back of the crossover, which was solved by putting three gaskets under that. Instead of just trimming the bolts, it was done half assed. Ring gaps set at 35-40 thousandths, and leaking down at 10-13% with 59 hours on it. The explanation given for the 6" breather extensions and STILL blowing a quart of oil out into the bilge every two hours? Crank windage.... For comparison, we are now running the exact same lower setup, pistons, crank, ect., but 22-23thousandths rig gaps, no breather extensions, and ZERO oil on the valve covers. Even though we upped the compression to just shy of 10:1. What happened to that windage you ask???? Same question I had. See you got me started, and I am not even done. Let's just say that I am very glad I didnt spend that kind of money getting it built only to have it last 59 hours, only to find out that it was from all signs a piss poor build job. To their credit, the bottom end clearances were spot on. With the setup in it now, We are pretty confident we will get a few hundred hours before refreshing the top end. A lot better than them telling me I should bring it up at 75 hours to do the top end. 75 HOURS!! A 1500 Sterling goes longer than that. |
I dont want anyone to draw from this that I am bashing the builder, because I am not. He builds some great stuff, but with this particular build I think they dropped the ball. Everyone pretty much knows who built the motor originally, and I am not going to name who they are or start a thread bashing them, because I dont really think that is necessary or mature. I didnt have the motor built, and if I had, it would not have been built like it was. A milder cam setup that is conducive to longer life could easily have been used and would have made just as much power, which is the route I would have gone.
Besides, who is really going to care about a small timer like me bashing someone? If I was a Gino or Pyburn status type guy, well then my opinion might have an impact. Water under the bridge. |
Nobody cares what you have to say! Quit crying...put a fresh manpon in...and go run the boat :drink:

Well it appears that Sunday will be early, if we are all meeting up at 11 or so. Might put in fairly early on Saturday and just hang out at Lloyds, maybe noon.
What did you have in mind? |

I might have to work some Saturday. Not sure yet. Sunday it looks like 10:30 at TP and off to Wild Duck. When do you leave? Are you going out Monday too?

John, you're as color blind as damn dog. Completly different color than the boat interior. It's cool, I actually prefer the baby blue color.... doesnt attract as much sun! I'll take a pic for ya on Monday... Im in miami for the weekend. I'm living the tough life over here:drink:

I am interested though considering I have the same problem happening with less than 15 hours. It's not overrevving either because I put a 5600 rev limiter chip in. |
