..aaand thats the PIA thing about them.
Makes no sense for even a 3 day weekend by the time you pack and unpack the thing.
I share my rig with a couple other trustworthy guys, (if you can image who they may be) who help maintain it and shelter it for me.
Between the three of us it still only has 23K on and its a 98. It's just real hard to get a week off.

so back to boats
have you been in a 29 ? if so how does she ride compared to the 27 ? I no it will be a bit slower with same power. I'm just not sure if they just stretched the 27 a few feet and maybe it doesn't handle as good or maybe it handles better ? . most of my cruising will be in the ocean 2 to 4 footers and depending on how much flight it has I may just be able to take wife and kid out in 2 foot or less . I am thinking between 700 to 800 HP in a single engine application Thank's

Yes I have been in many 29's and they are very fast for their size (Only velocity rates faster per given HP than the Laveys ) just a bit under the 2750 per HP but not much.
I had to run flat out to beat a merc "600" powered 29 with my smaller boat and theoretically more powerful 710- we were both pushing high 80's.
It's a few feet longer and you can feel it help in the rough and of course you can feel that length hurt in a turn.
Boat wont feel 2 feet - you can operate in that with complete impunity. I would have a 29 if it fit in my driveway.
I run catalina with 3-4's all the time with no drama.
Make sure if you are getting 7-800 Ponies you are getting a later hull.
The early bottom design was built to work well with 500HP and are set up for that HP- the later ones with what lavey calls the "full bottom its very easy to drive and very stable at speed where the earlier bottom was a bit skittish (easily fixed however if you get an early one)
The only caveat here is that being a "big 29" actually over 30ft. you are pressing a single XR really hard.
Ive ground up a couple of drives with my Ilmor 710- something like a Teague 800 will grind one down in a hurry in the ocean.
an SCX is ideal here if you can swing the bread.

Uncle Dave,
I did see your boat but it wasn't in the showroom at the time I was there. It was out back near the blue 39 Evo. Recognized the radar tower right away though! I've read everything to be seen here and otherwise easily found on your boat. Vey nice piece and i really enjoyed reading what I could about the build and how you set her up. Many great choices from my view and from what your boating preferences are for this one.
I'm new to LaveyCraft but have done my fair share of studying all I could on Lavey and especially the 2750. I have been in the market for a performance oriented MCOB in that size range for a few years and it came down to 3 manufacturers which all happen to be out in Southern California! I'm in New England and am not sure I've ever even seen a Lavey up here. That doesn't bother me in the least and I'm really anxious to get out in it. After crawling through it and then visiting the factory, I'm convinced I bought the best one for my preferences. Btw, you probably know the boat as it came out of Tennessee. Brought it home in November and all I've been able to do since putting it away for the winter is stare at pictures!
I came out of a 30' twin big block offshore boat and em really looking forward to something a little more economical and family friendly.
Great to see some chatter here on the forum. Been quiet all winter so hopefully sign of Spring!
Cheers,
Paul

Dave are selling your 2750 at Lavey ?
I have been in a few of the Lavey's. 2750 and the 29 model years 2001 thru 2005. The 2750 is more nimble and somewhat a feeling of lighter than the 29. For me the 2750 cabin would not work being 6'3 - 230 - the 29 is a lot better but still not perfect for taller people. The 29 feels a lot taller and really seems a lot taller driving in the water. The 29 seems to handle rougher water better plus the higher freeboard helps feeling more secure. I would buy the right 29 if I could find one. Corning the 2750 seems to corner better. Neither the 2750 nor the 29 do not corner like a Velocity 280. I know because I have the 280.
The Velocity can not handle the rough like a Laveycraft. The Velocity 280 is a drivers boat and is fun to drive because it needs input. Velocity quality is below a Lavey more than a couple of notches. Three boats IMO that corner like on rails is that Joker 26 and the Velocity 260 & 280. I was very shocked how well the Velocity 280 corners.
Somethings I do not like about the Lavey's and I promise I am knocking the brand because I really like the boat and really want a 29 - these are from what I saw in person from year models 2001 thru 2005. Cheap quality rub rail installed and so does Pantera. Could not believe what I saw for steering Rotary cable steering matched up with a single external hydraulic ram steering. Yes rotary cable steering on HP 500 efi & HP525 engine installed on boats 70 MPH and above. Especially for the price of this brand not have full 100% hydraulic steering thru out..
Also the wiring behind the dash is very average. Hustler Powerboats has it down on its wiring anywhere on it boats compared to many boats. Again I am comparing 2001 thru 2005 about 4 or 5 Lavey's that I saw in person and drove.

Tricky to say because the SCX has habit of pulling a few MPH off the top compared to a bravo (and its worth it for the longevity).
Give me some more info - When you say 7-800 is that NA ponies or blown ponies? At what altitude and heat do you boat and do you plan on carrying full people and fuel?

No Bup, my rig is not for sale.
Yeah a guy your size isn't going to camp well in a 2750.
Actually Lavey went with the smaller boat to race with as the speed vs water handling worked out in favor of the smaller boat.
No problem! You have only seen the Laveys you have seen and Ive seen hundreds..
I think the things you mention have 3 sides to their stories. Yours and my expectations and the original buyers wallet.
Lavey gives you a choice of rubber, steel insert, or they will do a hull fully capped when you buy the boat- if the owner chooses the stock rail- its his deal but the rail you are mentioning is the "stock" rail.
The rail on my 20.8 is a PIA one you describe, but the one on my 2750 is pretty slick. Lavey will paint the rub rail in the boat scheme if you want- (I don't recommend this)
As for the steering - its a completely custom boat, you can get whatever the Merc package is - or whatever you decide to buy.
Lots of guys cheap out on steering on their boats.
Haven't seen may hustler dash looms to compare, could very well, be. Ive never been impressed with the plumbing and wiring in the bilge shots I see here,of them though so whatever magic their dash guy has the bilge guy seems to give it up.
My 91 dash is till holding up pretty well but It not super pretty, but compared to my advantage jet boat that fell apart it seems deluxe.
I know Quents 2750 used a whole new setup that looked clinically clean and was totally different tech than my boat used.

example : so let say 700 hp would be a 80 mph every day boat 800 hp would be an 85 mph boat .
I say everyday boat as full of fuel 2 or 3 people in it a nice big cooler
ect, also depending on price maybe a merc 700 or ilmor 725 could be in the cards
Thank's

I hear you Dave loud and clear and your boat has a lot quality built in no doubt. I understand about the rub rails but it detracts from the rest of the great quality put forth by Lavey. IMO it shouldn't even be offered as many cheaply built production boats install a better rub rail set up.
We are talking about an extra 2.5 k for the builder to buy this anyways quality is quality just all up to the end user. Got to ask is your boat in for service or just show casing ? Remember I crawled all thru boat and yes it is very very nice 100%. Do not take it that I am knocking Lavey because I am not at all. They drive very nice and handle the rough very well. Again I would buy a 29 if I could find one. See you sometime down the road and I want a ride.
