In the early 70's Most of the Magnums on the lake came as pleasure boats and raced with bucket and back seats, after the race they out on the lake as a pleasure boat. After the SMIDGEN crashed the Mag's went with bolsters, tabs & hydraulic steering for safety. From Magnum you could get a stand up bolster and chicken bar to hold on to. As seen in this pic of the WOLVERINE M-793.
Then in 1974 two Magnums came to the lake as factory Open class II race boats with a single 482cu Merc with a speed III drive. One was Zonker the Mag nocig now has, and the other was BROAD JUMPER, no back seats just the bolster and long flat engine hatch.
The next big change came in 1975 the Trs drive was available, the Damn Yankee and SMIDGEN were two of the first Mags to have them along with rear fuel tanks for better balance. But even as race boats they had the rear seat untill Wally Harper made the hatch. Racing was still in it's early stage you made many of the parts and boat rigging to fit you.
Magnum did build the Starfire around 1980, as you can see alot of the old race boat style were in this mag, and it even had a rear seat & chicken bars.
