Rage,
I used a black sharpie to outline the cut. A 1 1/2" hole saw to give me nice radiused ends, and then I did a plunge cut with a circular saw to do the straight sections, and that worked well. I have a roto zip and did use it to install 3 pop up cleats (1 on the nose, 2 on the side decks). You would have to have a steadier hand than mine to use the roto zip to make those long straight cuts. Maybe if you installed a temporary guide, like a small 1/2" X 1/2" X 18" board, screwed to the hatch.
You may want to reread my specific instructions earlier in this thread.
Regards,
Steve

Hey Steve,

I was looking at this again. Do you have two of the Eddie Marine 2.5 x 17 large vents ? I can't tell from the photo if you have one on each side.

Thanks - Brad

Brad,
That sounds correct. I'll measure them today. Eddie Marine should have my ordering records. You can get the part #s from them if you need to.

Steve

Steve,

Anything new on getting cool air to the engine intake in a Nordic? In my case a Rage. I have finished the engine work and back to the air intake improvement issue.

I haven't seen a Rage in a while, but I think the engine hatch is similar if not the same as the Heat's. So, the hatch vents should work on your boat as well.
Mine is still working fine. Other alternatives are an engine hatch scoop (not practical on a "lake/non-race boat") or Monstaa's deck side induction vents, which I like a lot. I think the advantage his sytem has over my setup is there's probably a better ram effect on the side decks, and you wouldn't get as much engine noise in the cockpit. Personally I don't mind the noise, but I have friends who cover their ears due to the blower whine on my boat at speed.
If you're coming to the Jamboree this weekend, I'll show you my setup.
Regards,
Steve

Yes, the engine noise will be an issue for me so I am only considering intake designs that would come from the gunnels or below the rear bench seat. I plan on doing some testing of air pressure differential between the engine intake with the hatch closed versus various potential air intake access points with a jurry rigged manometer. Are you aware of anyone having done this kind of testing before and if yes what were the findings?

No we will not be at the Jamboree. I would like to see your set up first hand.
