What gives
#101
To give you a little info on what there thinking is....its very simple...
They have a standard hull.....one hull only in there series...
1 engine.....no changes to the engine at all....
the prop assigned with little modifications.....
1 position on engine location....
Honda has a few other things in the works....
Its pretty simple...talking to them the cost is very low....the maintance is very low....and they sell there series...with Honda getting a lot of publicity on the durablity of there engines....
for what the adverage teams over here spends on a used boat and engines.....you could buy 2 or 3 of these...with a quarter of the maintance.....
these guys also run in some big seas....
We have heard a number of builders over hear that said they can build the boat....
1. Who can build a boat with a 225 OB and run 70 mph...
2. Who can build the boat and keep the cost to were you can rig and put a 225 on for under 40K
3. Is a builder willing to build a hull and present it to a engine manufacture for a series, which in return if it succeeds the builder can recoup on its investment on the cost of each hull.
Presenting a engine manufacture with a oppertunity to showcase there product in the best water sport out there is the easy part....
Having a builder standing behind there product and taking a chance and the teams stepping up to race that series is the hard part....
But if you want a entry level class....thats affordable and compeditive and fair.....that Honda series is the best example....if you build it they will come....
and wait to you see whats around the corner for them.....lets just say...this series over there is not going away anytime soon...

Gino,
Whats the possibility of getting the same classes over here with
the same boats in the 40k range, then you could have a joint worlds with a
major sponsor, I'm surprised Honda USA hasn't got on board
with this.

From the conversation I had....there pricing would be the same plus the cost of shipping which is not that much....
They would also be a chance if Honda would do something over here were you just buy the boat race ready without engine and purchase it over here....
Honda is not going to come to us with a series...
From the people I talked to,if it was proposed and we ran the same identical series over here and with a possible joint race...it would be looked at very seriously.....
Its a pretty simple series...there is no one team advantage racing the same boat same engine and the boats set up the same way...its very fair racing, inexpensive, and a manufacture backing it....
I posted on this thread a couple of weeks ago, about running a series like the IROC Series dose....every boat exactly alike right down to rigging...everything in the same place....and to have a enrty level class like there 150 class is very smart it just gives the teams a place to move up into not out of racing....and for little money to move up in class...and with there new little CAT coming out....they will have 2 Vee class's and a Cat class...and don't be suprised if you don't see a entry level Cat class to...and end up with 2 Vee class's and 2 Cat class's
Funny....they would end up with 4 class's around 60+ boats...and all under 100k......
I know we all think big speed who wants to run 75 mph in a race boat....but look at history....
F1 was hudge....80 mph..
Class 4 over 15 boats
Class 5 over 15 boats
Class 6 over 10 boats....
and all speeds under 85 mph....
There are a lot of people that want to race....but the disadvatages all leads to money....
Build a 500k race boat class....you get 10 boats..
Build a 50k race boat.....and your possibilitys are endless...or take the example above...Class 4,5,and 6....not one boat would cost over 100K used...but you get 40 boats in 3 class's

How big are the boats? Sparky from Vicious has a bad azz 17' cat that would easily run 70mph with a 225hp. It is built like a rock too. He could probably add a foot or 2 to it if necessary. A 20 foot canopy cat will a 225hp would be a ton of fun.

- That Boat Travels a LOT faster than 70mph with a 225hp... A LOTThe 150hp class has a speed of around 50mph I read and they also allow crew 16yrs old and up.. a great way to "hook'em while they are young"
