Swap that 1.5 for a 1.65 most of the teams run and you should be at about 75.
These discussions are always a catch 22... To win you have to set your boat up for acceleration, both at the start and out of the corners. Thats why they often refer to this as bracket racing, you setup your boat to run the number thats it. No different than many of the "Pro" series in drag racing, left to no rules those cars could all run outside their "bracket" speeds.
I've said it once and I'll say it again...class 6 should be entry level & 500hp max, and move the big motors & experienced teams to class 5. Win/win with that move - a place for newbies to race and increased boat count for a great class 5.

Neal the 500 hp limit sounds good on paper but to many different hulls and weights for it to work.
For example if you took the class as it is now and put 500 hp in all of them the not guilty guys would be the kings out of all the boats they have the most modern hull to take advantage of a 500 rule.
If i had the extra money i would either finish my other boat or buy a nother hull and move to 5 or 4 for that matter but i wont move the velocity up and tri to compete with boats 4 feet bigger and beat it up for no good reason when there is great teams and boats to go up against in class 6.
Like the outlaw race that we are talking about if some of the class 5 guys that have big power come in and do it they will be hard to beat.

In reality we don't get that many newby's. We could however have a rookie of the year program for new teams that race as incentive to come out race.
Just my opinion, mind you,

Talk about groundhog day lol This argument has been around for as long as there has been a class 6. I don't really expect there to be any changes just voicing what I would like to see like everyone else.
I seem to recall this same argument "my *hits too short to compete" from the likes of Dukes, Crockett, etc which was fine because they put on a show battling it out race after race in 6 so never moved up. Yet when Crockett did move up they did just fine in 5 with a 26. Again, everyone is fine based on the current rules just feel if there is sandbagging anywhere its the experienced 6 guys not moving up to 5. It would need to be a concensus thing where all the "experienced" teams (yet to be defined) moved up.
Carry on boyz, either way 2012 should be yet another exciting year.

Thanks Rich, looking foward to that stick fight in the spring!
Thanks Johnny, I'll see you and Pop's up at the lake before the holiday. Make sure you have that turbine motor in the Switzer before I get there.

Normally I would post on something like this much sooner but work has had me very busy lately... so with that being said...............
1: At no point was Smitty talking about changing "any" of the Bracket classes.
2: This would be an experimental Power/weight, or spec style ballz out class.
3: All you that are complaining about our team PFE boat can do 2 things.. Get a bigger engine or (and) buy a Velocity Hull.
4: I'm 100% sure the class rules allow ANY single engine boat 26ft and under to build what ever power they want.
5: This is bracket racing.. top speed is a non-issue, acceleration is the name of the game. We don't build a boat to run as fast as humanly possible, we build a boat to accelerate hard enough to push your eyes to the back of your head
6: Not everyone wins.. as much as some people would like to think or try to make it happen we should not all get a first place trophy for just showing up.
7: All our H.P. has won us how many races?... That's what I thought now shut the f&*k up...
