After reading 11 pages of stuff i feel i need to toss in my opinion.
As a spectator of the St.Clair river race for the last 6 years and a power boat fan. The Big guys are cool but love class 5 and 6 boats and are way more fun to watch. The big boys are sweet but i would rather hang out with Bad News guys that are just racing to have a good time(even if they broke two years in a row). And his pit truck IMO is way better than a semi.... Having a SOB class would be great. I have one parked in my garage right now. I would toss in some racing seats and try my luck. I would not even try to race it in the ocean. But I would go to all 3 MI races. 531 WHOZ YOUR DADDY mike O |

Here's something from left field .... to try to keep this as an "entry level" .... why no see if this class can run on Saturday. It will had the the race weekend experience, you guys can maybe do heats ... and it could keep it at the "Entry Level" and not interfere with the races on Sunday.
I have spoken and heard from many on this proposed SOB Class. Seems many existing teams out there would join in on it if it did not interefere with Race Day. A few said they would become a 2 boat team instantly (run there existing OPA Class boat and run SOB.) Just food for thought. |

We are working with OPA officials and the rest of the class to come up with solid plans. At this time id rather not purpose thoughts and ideas on this message board, as rumors seems to be abounding... Stay tuned |
Dee, I like that idea! It could also be used as a "rehersal" for medical/rescue and check point boats. After the SOB/class 7 race, testing for all classes could go on-with checkpoint boats/resque already in place.
APBA use to run "P" class racing on Saturday and spec classes on Sunday. This would give fans something to see on Saturday besides testing, and allow some guys to race on Sunday too. By the way, I've spoken to a couple of teams serious about joining. I think that having Lake Hopatcong first on the schedule helps with getting this class going. |
Entry Level is a great concept, but not in offshore. It only takes a year or two before your no longer a new guy, so what is the next step a limit on how many seasons your aloud before having to move up or out? Class 6 was entry level and still is, its not the power or experience of the driver/throttleman, its really speed, no rookie should be in a 105mph class runnin dead nuts even with somebody down to turn one, and class 6 is very cost effective i have a lot of power and advantages and each race i lost sleep every time i saw rich & pete role in with a stock 496 for power, in an outdated boat. Its not the hull either my 1979 can win on any given day against any of the Jokers or new hulls in the class, 3 straight nationals now, and the Bajas that are said to be uncompetitive won the worlds in orange beach, Seat Time and Consistancy win races, and thats what class 6 was intended to accomplish, its a get your feet wet at a safer speed class, and get to see how you messure up with some of the Vets. Not taking shots just my 2 cents, i think the single outboard class is awesome by the way, if 6 is in a different race i got a little something for that class!
