There were 8 to 10 classes back then too...OPEN,MODIFIED,PRO-STOCK,STOCK,C,B,A,FACTORY...just like now the bigger classes had way fewer boats. So they used to group classes together for the starts...OPEN,MODIFIED,PRO-STOCK....C,B,STOCK...A,FACTORY...starts with 10 to 20 plus boats were also very exciting for the racers and fans!..and the courses were not that much longer than we have now.Today,we could start 1,2,3...4 and SVL...5 and 6.Again negotiating lapped traffic created plenty of passing opportunities.I remember in one race we were in 8th place in A class at the end of the first lap,but made some moves in lapped traffic, got all the way to 2nd.The boat leading made an outside move while lapping a boat going into turn one on the final lap,we dove under both of them and came out in the lead and won the race!Again I am only suggesting this for the ocean races, and this just my just my opinion.
..... I was also around F1 when they had 23 boats line up at the start and F2 had 26....Those days are gone. If the things that USO did and F1 & F2 was so great they would still be around. Do you think and entry level class would work? Not that you want it too, would it actually work in the climate of offshore today?

Things failed because of a take over in management and a series of rule changes that obsoleted so many boats.I am only offering opinions on how to possibly improve our sport.I really do think OPA has built a great foundation and people are really excited about our sport again. Its all good!
