Though both the Chevy and myself will need some time to lick the wounds... These damn trips are never painless, but fun like hell :) Dr Fyll o are you back in town yet? |
Replaced the drive coupler yesterday, now we only have some cleaning up to do before it goes back into the water.
Will take a good look at the fuel pres later on this week. Dr Phil will put some bragging asses "on the trailer" in Nynäshamn on saturday so everything will have to work properly by then! (I'm going to Israel on friday, I would have loved to be there!!!) Hopefully Mange will be there as well and one more fast boat. We will get those three first places in that race for sure! :D :angry-smiley-044: |

Nice! Spoken like an old school southen California hot rodder!
Go get 'em! Gotta love that expression! :D We have now replaced the Holley 130gph mech fuel pump with a GM Perf mech pump (the ports in the Holley are 3/8" and 1/2" in the GM) and done the same thing with the fuel filter bracket (3/8" to 1/2"). Altough I am suspecting that the drop in pressure is from the fuel pickup not beeing 100% tight from a crack or a bad weld. We'll see tonight (or tomorrow since I have to get ready for my vacation...) |
I need a used labbed Bravo 30" or a labbed Hydromotive 30-31" (4 blades). Can't find any here in Sweden.
Anyone got one to sell?! |

Exactly the same - the pressure drops as usual... Will go get a electric fuel pump instead, but will do a test when we will put the suction fuel hose in a fuel canister to see if that works. Right now it should be the fuel pickup that's f'd up. Probably a bad weld or a crack somewhere.
|
Got your prop already...there´s a 28" 4-blade cleaver here thats labbed to 29" by Luukila, Might be a little fragile for you as it´s done for a XR2 in a 24 Twister.
About "Kimis" Fountain...it was a 38 with 600´s and was lent out to him the owner has another one with 700´s and loads of (inherited) money than Kimi will ever have. Kimi personally has a 70ft Princess and is ordering something over 100ft last I´ve heard. I´ve spotted him a few times at the docks in Helsinki where there´s a lot of Fountains...and his own boat. The regular 35´07 in Hanko was a local guy from my town. *And yes I would love to wipe those Fountain guys with something oldschool.... like an Apache 41. I´m my self no fan of Fountains as I´ve had to check on a saturday evening a 2week old Fountain that runs only on one engine. The Bilges are full of installation leftovers and the engines well... they are like russians had installed them. In the Baltic seas the screws in the interior got loose and dropped off etc etc... No quality rigging in my eyes or then our sharp chop is a killer for massproduced powerboats in general as they always break here when the wind picks up. |

Have any of you guys ever run or seen one of those race pumps run? Looks trick and Hot Rod Magazine has been talking them up...
Interesting story on Kimi. I saw the name on the back and understood it to be his boat. Fountains are funny... I've seen some that look like they were rigged as nice as any Cig and I've seen others that as you (hilariously) stated look like they were assembled behind the iron curtain. |
Dude not yet but I´m going to try at least one soon or fabricate a similar one ,it´s actually a variation of a brake master cylinder..
Maybe this one was rigged like this as it was sent close to the Iron Curtain ! Infact ours is the Flying iron wall... But they forgot at Fountain that the western side of the flying iron wall is one of the no1 highTech countries in the world... Actually the rigging wasn´t that bad... but the leftovers was like you´d jump in a wastedump. I´m used to Mercruiser being finished crudely and their casting being like from russia but what do you expect when the basis for the engines are from Grusian Motors or was it general..oh well the tolerances are equal so who cares...:angry-smiley-044: |
Did you manage to solve the fuel problems?

I'am pretty sure they will go with a electric fuel pump. But yesterday the P4-4 sounded awesome!! And I cant wait to see Dr Phil and Tomas drive the boat offshore at Sandhamn september 8. Pictures from yesterday Mange |

Mange We have tested three different mech fuel pumps, two filter brackets and three different filters. All hoses are AN-10 to the filter and AN-8 to the carbs, fittings are all straight besides two sweeped 45deg's. We will by 95% go with an electric SX fuel pump. |

Mange I'm really looking forward to Sept 8th, but hopefully the weather still stands for next weekend as well. |

The weekend was so awesome, to bad we never went offshore, but you can't have it all at once... So great with great company and a great time!

We will borrow a used SX pump from Johnny to see if it will work, it do have some strange noise coming from it but it will definately do for some testing. :D Will do this test someday during this week.
Do I have to connect a return hose to the fuel pres regulator when testing? Or is that only important in the long term? |
Connected the SX pump today and took a testride...
It works awesome!!! FINALLY!!! :D Just need to go get a fuel pressure regulator with a return, connect it and finetune the pressure to finish it up. 85mph on completely flat water in 1/3mile from cruising cannot be too bad. :D |

Went to our first race last weekend! Awesome! :D
But about halfway through the engine coupler "exploded" leaving rubber peices all over the engine compartment...:violent-smiley-045: We had an awesome day, it was a lake race but with a a minimum of 1ft chop and up to 3-4ft at the most windy part of the track. :D This race was an "average speed" race, i.e you set up your own average speed and try to get as close as possible to. We set up 72mph on that 60mile track. That way you can race against boats in an honest way when there is not too many similar ones starting. Next year sounds very promising to get a bunch more boats to race against. A couple Arrow 830's etc... |
Cant really say the drive shaft is centered any longer - it rotates within a diameter of 1-1/2 inches so the bearing is long gone as well.
This is the second coupler this season. :( The engine is not 100% lined to the transom assy so that might be the thing. Will drill out the mounting holes in the stringer to get the engine a bit lower when mounting the next coupler. Is there any other coupler than the HD one that works better??? It can't have anything to do with how I drive so it has to be something else... The lining might be one - alot more HP than before and the lining a bit off might have been it. What do you high HP guys use? |

Long time, no update...
I ended up getting the steel long snout coupler. But also discovered that the inner transom plate got damaged when the coupler went. So I just mounted a new IMCO HD-transom plate. I'm hoping for some LATE fall runs, but I still have at least 2 months of work to get the 28 ready. Ordered a new sit-down interior from PPI that has been sitting in port in Ft-Lauderdale for quite some time but just got delivery status - aug 18th. All the oils are drained and will use Royal Purple ATF in the trim's and RP Steering in the steering and RP 20W50 in the motor. The new drive from Mr. Gadgets has still not been mounted but that is plug and play since the oil pump, cooler, filter and all hoses are mounted. I had to make some adjustments to the wingplate since it wouldn't fit the new swept upper, but no biggie - just a couple hours of grinding. The leakdownresults after 20-25hours: 1: 1.0% 2: 2.0% 3: 1.3% 4: 6.0% 5: 1.0% 6: 2.5% 7: 3.2% 8: 6.0% I will check #4 and 8 when I have started the engine since the leakdown should be lower than 6%. |

Had the motor on a dyno last week. The Pantera will be ready to hit the water within a week or so! I started it in the boat yesterday and it sounds more evil than ever! :evilb:
Can't say I'm too dissapointed with the numbers The sheets are with 93 octane (870HP@6000/9.5PSI). With 91 we got 856HP@6000/8.2PSI. I have not got the recorded files from the dyno yet. |

Hoping for some testing next weekend if the weather permits:rolleyes:

Tomas nice numbers on the dyno !!
I'm sure its listed here somewhere but without me going through 28 pages of thread : Are you still running the steel heads ?? Also what cam are you running now ?? I ask b/c besides the bore & stroke our motors are very similar internally & cu" wise.. I am at 511 cu" with 4.375 bore x 4.25 stroke.. I was thinking your motor had ported 990's on it when you got it right ?? Also its funny b/c if I remember corectly our cams were nearly identical too , but not sure if you went back with it or changed it up ?? |
