Jk.
No we're doing ok. We've def fallen off our original pace. Mostly due to waiting for vital pieces from suppliers or things that need mods.

Interior is done. Gauges & some wiring done.
Xr is @ drive shop for fresh upper & lower.

We unfortunately wont be making o.c. Race.

Our intent is to take the extra month to get the boat dialed.

We plan to race the remainder of the opa tour with the exception of port huron on aug 11 / 12
We'll also be racing around l.i. Sept 22

Pix soon.
Thx for interest

So when is the first race?

scarab63 07-27-2012 01:39 PM

Thanks for posting joe.
Transom pix
Got new imco ” space saver” steering to solve the narrow beam issue. Fully rebuilt xr drive.
Notice the fittings on the tail pipes...these are gil drys but for a trs application. I cut them down but opted to leave the water dumps outside on the pipes for now. Original idea was to aim them at drive for a shower, but kinda pointless seeing the temps coming out of the exh prob wouldn't help cool the drive too much.

Interior pix

Was going to do drop out bolsters in this boat, but the cockpit is too small. When we mocked them up my knees were hitting the wheel sitting & def wouldn't work.
decided to use some of the existing old interior ( side arm rests ) and build a new bench seat.
I thought it would look cool to do speedster style backrest on each side and the middle is easily removable. I plan to build a cascading middle console so I can swap them back & forth as needed.
The headrest backs also give me a little dry storage. The seat itself is 11” of memory foam medium density, so theres plenty of padding.

Dash pix

The dash is cut for two helms. For now ill swap em as needed. Next yr ill have two mounted with control valves under the dash to change flow to which one works.
Livorsi monster gauges in silver carbon look cool. Wish I took a pic of wiring under the dash....its spotless.

Bilge pix

Motor is a higher comp version of a merc 525sc.
Think I need more fuel delivery though. I leaned it out and pushed the head gaskets.
Dont expect to see it in the bilge next season. There will be some big pig in its place. At least 750hp

B.S.

Having issues with set up. Boat has major porous mid range, and is blowing out a bravo 26 easily.
Lots of tab drag to correct it so far.
Occ joe seems to believe the bottom may have been blueprinted at some point, so now ive got that in my mind also.....
only got her up to 67 so far which is disappointing, but the head gaskets let lose.

She got a wash & quickie wax and is now chilling in the garage.
This boat $.05 & $.10 me to death so I need to just take a bit of a breather.......

Wont be racing opa until spring 2013. Rolled my dues towards next season.
The boat will be 100% by then.

MD

Edit......thanks jamie & mike on the build. Joe for general info. Nunez family for tech support. Morgan for not kicking my asz for being gone every other night until 3 am.........sponsors. Adpro, tipsy, hylan, tj frye

Also since most guys on here are east coasters I started this project ordering all my stuff from KE. but I was not happy with their service at all !!!
Started using teauge, prices were actually better, bigger selection, cool guys to talk to, very patient. & orders show up on time !!!! Them being west coast actually helps too. The time difference gives me some time to place the orders after work.
Just .02 for somebody doing a future build. Waiting for parts kills progress fast.

rchevelle71 07-27-2012 03:06 PM

Thanks for the update..............

67, ya gotta do better than that, you dont wanna get beat by a purple 24 with an outboard do ya:party-smiley-004::poopoo:

sparky24 07-27-2012 05:37 PM

f*kin beautiful

scarab63 07-27-2012 05:50 PM

@ rick. Dont worry we'll get her dialed with big power for next season. If you'd like ill make a special trip to put ya over my knee:lolhit:

Thanks catlyst....motors for sale. Would be a good candidate for ya excalibur $6500 with fresh gaskets & whatever else it takes to get it back to 100%. Complete pan to carb :evilb:

sparky24 07-27-2012 06:22 PM

tempting but my shortblock is half way done over at precision an i doubt i have the bulkhead clearance for a blower excal has a small engine bay. on another note got any heads lying around for sale?

bwd 07-27-2012 09:58 PM

Great effort Mike! Don't blow your brains out on big power. I was given good advice recently. "You got to finish the race." I look forward to catching up at some point. Good luck with the other stuff you got going this summer.

Dont worry, we'll meet up some day, and I am sure you'll hand it to me, but lets run the keys, I know the shortcuts thru the flats:evilb: You'll be pissin'yer pants thru toilet seat cut.

All good B
I left my brains behind when I started this build, so no worries on the big power. I figure wtf...ive come this far.
Call u soon. Sorry, been crazy busy.

exhaust pipes

when you cut the pipes down did you weld the inners to outers and put the upper and lower drain holes back in.

i want to have my gil dry pipes welded around the perimeters and keep the drain holes, just wondering about pressure issues w/o water sneaking out of the swaged ends.

looks really nice, good luck getting dialed in
dan

scarab63 07-29-2012 09:28 AM

Ya dan ill get a pic.
They look pretty sick now. Factory pipes are crushed together and welded.
We cut & filled the gap welding, then ground it clean. Drilled a couple relief pee holes.
Im pulling em to move the bungs inside the boat this winter I think.

IRONMAN 07-29-2012 09:47 PM

Very easy to dial in another 10- 12 with that power and drive so stick with it. Great looking ride.

Aftermarket cowl that looks stock, but very lightweight, not an alien. The lower cowling had a little mishap in the truck on the way home from Miami, that is why it is not installed yet, fixing it up tonight. The exhaust is not fully open, but Shaun did some work in there with the tuner and such, it is just slightly throatier than stock. Gonna try to run it next weekend if I get some parts I am waiting for, but still in break in for a few weekends.

outonsafari 07-31-2012 12:17 AM

pipes

thanks, figured they could be welded up

scarab63 08-15-2012 06:57 AM

Round two........

:poopoo:
So this boat has my #, or rather my bank accts #:lolhit:

I tried to sell the current power in it complete, but its not looking like theres much of a market for it.

Soooooo.
Ive got next week off. Ill be pulling the 454 for a freshen. I plan to bolt on some big aluminum heads, a 8:71 blower, custom cam.
I wanted to run a big ci na motor, but this will work too I guess ?

This time around ill have a bit more time for details in the bilge. powdercoat, & maybe even some shiny things !!! Any suggestions for powdercoat colors ?

My goal is 750+ hp

*also, building this thing has left me out of the water this yr & salty about it.
Ive decided im buying a second boat because as you can see this boats not all that practical to begin with. I want something I can overnight on & just chill & drink.
Would a sailboat be too gay ?????
What about if I drill out the exhaust on the 10 hp???
Would that give me a pass ???!!!! Lol

Unlimited jd 08-15-2012 07:39 AM

I'm gonna bust you in the teeth if you mention sailboat one more time! :angry-smiley-038:

scarab63 08-15-2012 08:16 AM

:-) they just seem so relaxing !!!!!
Don't worry bud, ill have a umbrella drink ready for u when u board !!!
Cooking some fish & bugs & rockin to james taylor with the 24 rafted up !!!:party-smiley-020::)
Is it a reverse early mid life crisis ?
Probably !!!!

rchevelle71 08-15-2012 08:42 AM

Put down the pipe, and build the frikken motor already:evilb: You know my situation, and I am not even considering a sailboat:lolhit:

scarab63 09-18-2012 03:48 PM

Motor (454) getting pulled this week.

I've acquired a bowtie 510 ci, dart alum heads, very clean with low hrs. Was making 600+ ez
I wanted to smack a 10 71 on top, but I guess that'll cause some opa drama.....

So cam, work the heads, bigger carb etc......
It WILL NOT go in the boat until it dynos at least low to mid 700 s.
Should help pass them winter blues.....

Unlimited jd 09-18-2012 04:04 PM

100+ more horsepower in a faster hull, gonna be some good times !

88bullet 09-18-2012 06:33 PM

you guys picking tom's brain on hull work??

700+ should make that llittle guy a lot of fun!

Unlimited jd 09-18-2012 07:41 PM

Well apparently someone did some work to this hull already, need to baseline it with the new power before we make any more changes. It has a bit of midrange porpoise right now but smooths out and runs true when you lay it down. So we'll see.

With my 24 it's a huge difference in ride quality between 65-70mph and close to 80. A bit bumpy and loose in the lower range and completely awesome in the upper!!!

Imagine not being able to break 60:angry-smiley-038:

Mine runs great, so long as you are accelerating, or have a bit of throttle left to pull out of something funny, but try to cruise at 40 down the ICW, and your gonna have sore arms tomorrow.
