Bought a 24 pantera...i think.
A friend of mine lead me onto a 24 pantera forsale in MA. Went and took a look at it today and put a deposit on it. After getting back home i decided to research it a bit. Come to find out, there was a thread on here last year about it. It has a alum HIN tag on the transom. I was stupid and didnt get the numbers but my concern is that some people on here were saying it may not be a pantera. The guy wanted 4500 last year and we just agreed on 1400 with trailer. Any info would be awesome!
Here's some pictures: http://photos-b.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos...96382702_a.jpg http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...60483923_n.jpg http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...75413292_n.jpg http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...44863727_n.jpg http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...39155614_n.jpg |

The dash says Team Pantera...So i assume its a real pantera, unless someone went and ebay's a panel.. |
Looks like a Pantera to me.WCW should be the first letters on the hin. $1400 seams like a good deal to me.
|
It does look like a Pantera. What year? Looks like late 70s. The window does look a little big, however. The rails on the side are notched like my 89 are.
|
The guy said its a 79. The HIN tag was made of alum and couldnt really read it. Going to pick it up next weekend. I'll know some more info then. Whats the best power for the boat? I have a 420hp bbc and a TRS drive. Dont know a whole lot about the pantera's. So any info would help. I've been researching it for awhile, just trying to figure out whats best.
thanks kris |
Good luck with it, looks like a good project. I'm in mass also and have a clean bravo gimble and drive that would go well on that
|
Nice find, a great boat to work with as it is the SE with better cabin access. Best power is any 502 or 509 inch motor in my opinion. The cutout is for an Alpha so it would be best to just drill the 2 extra holes and go with a Bravo setup and use your 420 BBC to start with
Good luck with it |
That does appear to be a Real Pantera, and looks pretty solid in the stringer and transom area as well, good find.
|
No no tell him it's junk so I can pick it up 20 min away vs driving 8 hours to pick one up for my buddy! Lol wish I had known it was still for sale!
|
Got a nice motor for it in the swap shop. Ill deliver.

Here's an '80 listed on Powerboat listings, and it appears to have the identical dash as yours.
http://www.powerboatlistings.com/view/16765 Windshield is slightly different, but it has the same dual rails on the bow. |
haha, things solid. Someone resprayed the hull and actually did a great job. The bilge was just re-gel coated. hope it goes together quickly. If only lil red would sell me that bravo transom assy!

Well i got it home saturday. Steam cleaned it, and it looks great in person. As far as the trailer goes, im going to sand and paint it and throw new fenders on it. Its a pretty rugged trailer. What should i do as far as logo/name? I think im going to remove the stripes of the boat aswell. And paint the bottom vivid white. the maroon is pretty ugly, but its pretty recent paint. Any ideas?

The fender broken at the no step sticker is classic!
|
This place does awesome work affordable if its in your budget?
www.adprodesign.com He owns a couple powerboats & is very helpful / knowledgeable. Maybe just some type of 1/2 wrap fade to clean up the back a bit ? Or just freshen the existing boot stripe & letters. |
yea i was thinking of a 1/2 fade, just dont know what to do for one. Its an akward color to work with.
|
What happened to the rubrail?
|
He claims he didnt have it. Someone starting taking stuff off the top deck like rub rail windshield cleats etc. So i'll have to find a rail that i like. The bow still has the rub rail, so i'll prob just try and find some more
|
Good deal for that price. Interior looks almost identical to my sport except the windshield
|

i would rig it first and get everything running. If you still have money left and you still like the boat after a little seat time then address the cosmetics.

Im rebuilding the 420 currently. Im going to strip the decals off for now, and rig it and run it.
|
Are you still running the 850? I have known your boat for a while it was almost a twin to my old 24' '80 red white etc...

any chance you could email me some pics of the pantera logo you have? I've been trying to figure out what to do and that looks perfect!
I made those decals myself (vinyl plotter here at work) Not only will I send some pics but send me your e-mail and I will also send the files so your local sign shop can cut you a set of logos :) I went with Sunfire Yellow on the EYES because the green clashed with the red. Too much of a Christmas theme. Gets alot of compliments! |

Any info or stories you have from my boats Lake George days would be greatly appreciated! The 850 Blower motor has been beefed up and sits in a 26' American Offshore. The Pantera has a brand new (2 years ago when I bought the boat) 496ci tall deck. Alum heads, Gil Dry Exhaust, etc. About 600hp. Boat is too much fun. Cant wait to see how the S.E. here turns out. |
Kris,
I received your PM and files have been sent :) Looking forward to seeing your boat finished. It's gonna be a nice one! |
Well, I tore into the motor last week. Sent the crank out to be ground and polished. Just got it back saturday. Ordered engine bearings and pistion rings. Sent the heads out to get a valve job, etc. Gonna do a light hone and throw it back together.
I had the girlfriend start removing the decals and pinstripe. While she was doing so the paint was comming off with the damn decals. Sooo, I said screw it and yanked it off the trailer and starting removing the bottom paint, taking the hardware off and painting the whole thing! totally not what i wanted to do. But oh well. I decided to go all white, top to bottom. Using awlgrip color snow white. And going with the black pantera oval with the green eyes out back on either side. Should be a fun little project! Got most of the bottom paint off today, I have some chips to fill tomorrow and will be ready for epoxy primer. here's a few pics: http://photos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos...23502026_a.jpg http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...77938106_n.jpg http://photos-h.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos...59968981_a.jpg |
Im at the point to start filling holes around the boat. I think im getting rid of the eyes on the bow and just doing two pop up cleats up front towards the bow. Do I keep the bow rails on or fill the holes?

Whats the best way to fix the hump in the deck on the starboard side of the hatch. It looks like water got between the core. Cut it from underneith and replace the wood? I dont want a wavy deck.
|
No one??
|
Cut it from the top ! Measure the depth of what you have now , do not cut all the way through . You'll need the inner layer of glass to act as a shelf . You can use plywood again but I would use Divinycell foam board ...after you pre fit it apply two layers of 1.5 oz matt and drop it in matt side down . You can apply the matt on the top and blend it in and the best part is , you don't have to cut and glass in your cabin over your head . . . Almost forgot take a piece of plywood with a garbage bag on it a little larger then the area your filling and prop rod it under the hole . After the glass has dried remove it , the plastic bag wont stick to the resin and it should leave a nice slick finish in your cabin roof .

I like the rails
|
Well havent had much time to work on the boat. But we stripped another boat we had in the yard to junk it. And found some bucket seats that im going to use. I stripped the old vinyl off and the foam was a little damp. Going to let them sit inside and dry out, then have them recovered.
http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...70381656_n.jpg Also cut the floor out due to flexing. Around the old bolster seat holes was rotted aswell. I cut the layer of glass off and started tearing the old plywood out. I've never actually seen a floor done like this before, i always see a single piece of plywood layed down instead of the little squares. Why exactly do they use squares? http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...83547539_n.jpg And just a pic before i cut the deck out. http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...36728498_n.jpg |
I saw this boat in the yard where I bought a trailer for my 1980 24. I keeped my rails but moved them to the out side.
