Hey Steve, got a question for ya.......I'm makeing a small plug for a stereo project for a buddy and am thinking about possibly making a few of these items.....the plug right now is a mix of wood and the pink insulation foam. What would you cover this with to get a nice smooth finish to make a mold off it??? Would you cover with glass? I was hopeing for something to maybe spray it with with minimal finish work...any thoughts? Thanks :D

As long as some questions are being thrown out....

What is the wavy material on the engine room battery shelf/step/floor?

Thanks!

Yes we gelcoated those seperate on the floor and then brushed gelcoat across the joints when we assembled it,before glassing into a unit ,there was some wet sanding on the seams when we pulled it a small nub ,they looked real good and it took a Truck windshield so eventually I could add wipers and a wash system.

Be careful of the styrofoam, you are forced to use epoxy over it to be safe ,that precludes the cheap fairing materials,Even in Duratec you must use the Vinylester based material for finishing. If you could swap that out for a urethane foam, then a layer of Glass and body fillers ,long boarded then covered with like a 707 Duratec and sand until you see your face.

33 SF weight

I am lift shopping and need to know the true weight of my boat. This is what I have so far:
- PP brochure lists weight (hull and deck, bonded) as 2,980 lbs.
- Total engine weight is 1,568 lbs. (3 Merc 250xs)
- Full fuel at 250 gallons figure another 1,538 lbs (6.152 lbs per gallon)

So far I am up to 6,086 lbs. Does anyone know if the brochure weight includes all the other stuff on the boat like seats, console, wiring, radar arch, etc, etc? If not, what is a reasonable guestimate for all the other stuff

Yes. This boat was rigged from new at Performance Marine with their own custom I/O engine package. They made in the 550hp range. we rerigged the boat with 502s when the new owner took possesion in Texas. Its a killer boat in great shape.

Under the back seat is a hatch leading to the tank valves and senders unless it had custom tanks, or was rigged for transmissions which placed the hatch in the engine bay .

Thanks Maverick

Looking for a 33'ss

Wow I just read from page one,way to cool. I have found every 33' sport deck out there for sale but live in Texas. No chance you know any of the these boats or anything about them.
Thanks for all the kick ass info!

Hey Steve, thanks for the awesome thread! Back in the day we rigged two 32 Cobra raceboats, and 25 years later its still my dads favorite vee bottom design to date. Awesome boats, and you have without a doubt built some of the most impressive vee bottoms in the world. Thanks for the thread!

Sir you are very welcome.

Yes, great thread. I already liked Powerplays but reading this gives a true appreciation for their quality, and what had to go in at every stage.

Do you mean Plum Gut??

Do you mean Plum Gut??
Yes and no. It's a play on words (getting in shape for summer). I grew up on the east end.

302Sport 03-29-2011 12:51 PM

been through plum gut hundreds of times.......my boat can steer itself from the pavillion to claudios and back :drink:

Plumb_Gut_Phil 03-29-2011 12:57 PM

That's cool. Plum Gut was a pucker test for us "wimpy baymen" types back in the day.

I'm glad to hear Claudios is still in GP. What about Port of Egypt (**** company)? Or the old blacksmith shop?

The staggered race boats like yours most likely across the dashboard on a stock IO 33 behind the front bolster.
