Jromy's 33 was stolen and stripped over a year ago and yes I believe it is the last 33 built. It is here in my shop waiting for it's rebirth...:) which is currently going in the Ilmor direction. The boat is still meticulous!

What kind of performance did the 38' with yanmar and arnesons have? That seems like it would be a sweet set-up.
Steve -- love to read this kind of stuff -- you're the man! Dave |

It depends on what or why you think they do or do not need steps.. Like Jupiter stated in todays economy..for speed..steps sell and like many boats on this board like Fountain, AT..etc...a step equates to an approx 10%+ increase in performance..is it needed on the PP if the hulls ever came out again.. I say yes.. the 33 as well, same situation..and while your at it do the 28..heck..I might as well open a boat co..cause it's so profitable..:grinser010:

I disagree. I bought my 33' because it didn't have steps. JROMY's boat had 525s in it and it ran 88 bone stock with no dialing in what-so-ever. That boat was rigged at John Tomlinson's, not PowerPlay and wasn't dialed in at all. I'm sure with some tuning it would have hit 90+ without much effort. It was one of the only if not the only 33 with sporty shorties and PowerPlay hadn't performed a set-up on it yet. Steve1, please correct me if I'm wrong but I know JROMY and his boat well. Plus it's going to do well in the slop, these aren't lake boats. My hull didn't come to life unless it was choppy out. If someone smokes me in the flat I could care less, I bought it for it's rough water performance and predictable handling.

BTW...Steve1, thanks for this thread. My dream boat was always a PowerPlay 33'. I wanted one for the longest time and finally owned a beautiful '97 for a few years. It never disappointed me in any facet. I boat in Long Island Sound and it chops up very nicely, I wanted a boat that was perfect for those waters and it sure was well suited for them. From the sleek lines to the build quality, rigging, and performance it was impressive, and the ride in the rough was first class. Thanks to you and Dan and all at the PP factory, you really built a first class boat and I think this thread is showing those unfamiliar with them what a great boat it really is.

Steve
It is no doubt a shame but the bright side is that at least the thieves didn't damage it. When the boat was found it been de-rigged, not a wire was cut in the boat nor a mark anywhere ( ok one little one on the transom) |

Amen to all that, I've always liked how straight bottom boats handle and feel over step boats.

OK and a 35 Fountain with staggered 525's runs 105.....The point is yes they were awesome (and still are) boats but to be competitive in 2010 the boat needs to be updated. Efficiency = speed and more importantly today fuel economy! |
105 down river, with the wind at your back, a gallon of fuel left, and 6 inch ripples.............the staggered 35 fountain has about the smallest cockpit i have ever seen on a pleasure boat. Also, for running surface a 33PP would better be compared to a 38 fountain when you minus the 5 feet for the beak, notched transom, and built in swim platform.
