Pics from today- worked on the interior, resealed the transom and hydraulic blocks, got most of the interior done. Still have to order carpet, hatch actuator(ordered but have not got it yet) and get the hatch pad covered, and get the stereo installed. Getting there slowly!!!:cool-smiley-011:

AWESOME!
Nice Job Man! Very Nice! |
Scottie that looks fantastic! Keep it up. Did you change the way your engine cover opens or was it always a one piece like that. Mine is two piece that opens from the center then outwards.
|
502- Thanks- Hows your boat coming?
Areyouliving- I converted to a one piece hatch- I had the same style as yours(two hatches split in the middle) but I wanted to be able to use a actuator to raise it. Its a work in process, but hopefully it comes out ok- like I said nothing goes easy on this project- by the way I got a quote on upholstering the hatch, one color, $550. Seems kind of steep to me- what do you guys think?:evilb: |
I know places down here are hurting for work and are advertising complete upholstery jobs for between $1200 and $1500 so a hatch for $550 seems a little steep.

Two problems- 1. Still leaking from the transom- cheating on this one and taking it to a mechanic. 2. Major electrical issues- I am thinking the main fuse blew because we lost all power to the dash, which made us lose power to everything- including the bilge pump. Thats not too much fun when you are taking on water in the middle of the lake!!!!:angry-smiley-038: However- despite all the problems- it hauls a$$ and sounds wicked(when its running):lolhit: |
ALLRIGHT!!!:Score-101010:

You buy me the plane ticket and I will come fix your electrical problems! NO VIDS YET? :evilb:
P.S - The boat is coming along slowly but it is coming, thanks for asking! I am pretty sure the relay is bad- and the funny thing is I don't know why they put one in it because the original wiring diagram from Merc does not have one- so go figure. Its not a big deal because I am waiting for parts anyway:boat: |
relay? What does it power?
Also, you mentioned your bilge pump didnt work when the fuse blew? Do you not have a manual bypass on the pump in the engine compartment? |
If you look at a normal Merc dash wiring diagram- there is a 20 amp fuse in line with the ignition switch, and on the other side of that is where the accessories pull off of, so if you blow the main fuse everything goes(which makes sense). For some reason the guy who wired my dash decided to put a 30 amp relay in line with the fuse, I think to power up the dash or something. I havn't gotten back out there to check, but thats the only other thing in line- so that has to be it, and this is not the first time I have had a problem with the relay. From what I can see it really does not need to be in there, so if it keeps giving me a problem I'll get rid of it, because like I said I have no idea why its there.
As far as the bilge pump- it was supposed to be wired direct from the battery to the float switch, with a bypass switch on the dash- however I don't think that is the case, as the float switch does not work when there is no power to the dash, so thats something else I have to fix- add it to the list:lolhit: |
Are all of your switched accesories powered from the ignition switches? if so that would explain the relay and you will need it if thats the way it's wired. I am pretty sure the wire feeding the ignition switches is not big enough to carry the load of all the accesories. I wired most of my high drain devices that are on switches on the dash directly to the fuse panel under the dash. The keys do not have to be on for them to operate. Actually, Now that I think about it, the only power coming from my ignition swithces is to power the physical instruments and the actuial ignition to the engines.
|
This is random, but did you check to make sure the batteries didn't short out? I just had two brand new batteries completely short on one of my Chris Crafts. Can't find any reason why. Put two new ones in and haven't had a problem since. Again totally random just a thought.

Update- cheated and took it to a boat mechanic- they replaced the bellows and o-ring on the drive, so hopefully that fixes the leak. On the electrical I finally looked at it- and something keeps popping the main circuit breakers on the engine. I bought two new engine wiring looms so I am going to install those today(not really excited about pulling the starters:angry-smiley-038:) so I hope that fixes all the stupid electrical gremlins, as everything else is brand new. I will keep you guys posted- thanks for all the input!!
|
scottie150, I've been following this from the beginning. All I've got to say, and I hope you know it's a big compliment, is I wish I had the money when you were finished to make an offer you couldn't refuse. Sincerely speaking, this boat of yours is truly incredible. I absolutely love it.
Well, my wife is back in school and once she is finished she will have moved on up to a new career field...maybe I can persuade her, lol. Anyway, I sincerely wish you the best!!! :) |

I started repainting the drives and the engines are actually starting to look like engines again. I will try to snap some pictures in the next day or two! |

Spent most of the evening chasing the wiring. I am amazed- I bought merc wiring harnesses, and none of the colors are the same. Story of my life!!!! Like my wife says- if it was easy, everyone would do it-:lolhit:

Hey Scottie how far are you from Ephrata? I am stuck here for the weekend and would love to see your boat in person. I dont know if you remember but I talked to you awhile ago about your windshield. I have the same boat you do.
|
From Ephrata I am about two hours. Is there anything in Ephrata?:drink:
|
Oh not really. I am gonna go to the local race track tonight. I asked the lady at the hotel if there was anything to do and she straight laughed at me.

Changed out both engine harnesses today, that sucked!!:angry-smiley-038: Spent a couple of hours tracing all the wires, and generally checking all the connections- got everything sorted out(after fixing all the stupid mistakes), went to light it off and I was still popping the circuit breakers. After scratching my head for a long while, and rechecking all the stuff I had already checked, I found the right ignition switch hot lead was shorting against the throttle cable housing causing it to short out. The good news is I found my electrical problem, the bad news is I now have to buy a new throttle cable and change it out. :violent-smiley-045:
Its always the last little sh!t that takes the longest.:lolhit: Capone550- nice to meet you- thanks for the help!! |

You have the same shifter/throttle setup as mine. What a pain in the a$$ to swap the cables out! I replaced my throttle cables last fall before I put the boat away and I was cursing and swearing the whole time!
At least you found the problem! Good Luck! :drink: |
Havn't been on this thread in a while. Boat looks great.

Mine are Kiekhaefers- or basically Mercury racing performance shifter- you can get the parts from Merc.
Make sure if you buy one used that you get the ends that go into the shifter(the cable ends) because those little items are $pendy!!! |
These are coming from the east coast so i have only seen a photo. What do they look like?
