saw hull # 27 for sale at anchor marina on sat. 52,000. its a really clean boat still running stock power.

zul36 05-07-2008 12:11 AM

The P-29 is the same as the 1999 and newer 29' scarab's except for the drives?....Right
jc

Michael Garibay 05-07-2008 11:26 AM

I thought the P-29 had Kevlar hull. My 31' Fittipaldi was Kevlar.

zul36 05-07-2008 07:22 PM

According to Kona boat (Another Larry Smith Co) the Scarab P-29 had the same hull as the later 29's......The hull was a great design, but the magic was in the drive.

Your right Mike the Magizine said it was Knytex's Kevllar blend.

Any know of a Blackhawk being tried on a 29' single engine? Wouldn't that work quite well?

I think there might be two problems with a blackhawk on a single. 1) the drive might sit too high in correlation with the bottom of the hull (and too low in the water) since it is in the center and the lowest point. 2) In a single engine 29' the torque on a big block might be too much for a blackhawk. I don't know what they can take.Mike

There is a reason they quit making them and I'm sure it was not because they worked so great . :cool-smiley-026:

But that's my point, from everything I've heard and read they do work great - and our beloved P29 is proof, right?

MG - no that you mention it, I remember reading somewhere BH's would break when big torque was put through them. Maybe they are ideally suited for a SBC. It would still be fun to try one on a single with stock power to see how it did.

So, would a shorter drive (like IMCO) with a 4 or 5 blade prop work as well as a BH? Anyone heard of someone taking the BH's off a P-29?

Sorry for all the questions, but I'm facinated with why the BH didn't survive in the market when it gave such a huge speed/efficiency boost to the P-29.

fastp29 05-14-2008 09:13 PM

i ran with another p29 for about an hour one day last oct. he said he had 450 hp 383's and he had bravos on it while his bh's were getting freshened up. he said it ran like crap with the bravos. he didn't say what props.

BY U BOY 05-14-2008 10:11 PM

The blackhawks work well on a boat with alot of natural bow lift. They also work great o cats.

I think the BH were ahead of their time. Boat builders did not want to make the modifications to the boats to accept the BH.

I would like to see the BH's come back with all the new technology.

Airpacker is running one behind some big power and it has lasted longer than the B1 he had before.

It seems to me that stepped hulls would work well with BHs. Anything designed for a high x-dimension should respond well to them, I think.

Given AirPacker's huge gain in speed (and effiency) with his BH, again I'm suprised some manufacturer hasn't latched onto the BH idea.

fastp29 - so, given that P-29's don't like Bravo's I would assume plain ol' 29's would greatly benefit from BHs, no?

Sorry for all the questions, but is the engine and outdrive mounting the same in all 29's (standard or P-29)?

Fast are the 31p props different than stock props? If so show some pic's of them.. :cool-smiley-011:

Ouch! Are you saying BH's are the outdrive equivalant of an old fat chick? Double ouch!

MalteseScarab 05-22-2008 11:51 PM

Hey

Does anyone knows any P29 with 350 Magnums from 1996 procharged?

nova26 05-27-2008 08:03 PM

P-29 stolen from salvage yard in Dry Ridge Ohio on the weekend of April 26th. Don't know anymore than that.

The crashed LOTO one is still sitting in a parking lot here in Bloomington, IL. If anyone is curious what hull number it is I can get it. Shame it has sat uncovered all this time. Lots of parts could have been salvaged from it.

That would be great if you could get the # of the boat. I have a note book going and tracking them. It would be another one to mark off.

No problem. It sits in the parking lot of one of the buildings I work at. Shame seeing those Blackhawk drives all busted up on it.

Snap a few pix if you have a chance, see how bad she looks.:D

joep29 05-29-2008 04:50 PM

the p-29 in bloomington belongs to SF insurance. I inquired to find the status on that boat a few weeks ago. Thought there could be some useful spare parts we could all use. Too bad, but state farm won't sell the boat because it is being used for "training." If anyone wants more information I could get them the claim number if they pm me!

nova26 06-14-2008 03:10 PM

Any 29ers out there? You guys have been kind a quiet lately. Any one have them out the holiday week?

Would you mind posting the hull numbers for all of them and where the ones are that you know of? Kind of a running total for all of us.

nova26 06-17-2008 12:14 PM

No problem! I've been meaning to do it, I have notes on a yellow pad I'll put it together and post them up the soon.

That one sold to a guy on the site a few months ago. As far as the drives there are a guys on here that have a lot of experience with them, I know Airpacker is running blackhawk drive.

bigboat28 06-30-2008 03:16 PM

How fast were those P29's?

nova26 06-30-2008 03:41 PM

76mph out of the box. (Powerboat Magizine March of 96)

ENFORCER24 06-30-2008 06:14 PM

i just saw a P29 on Boattrader in GA , selling for 29k , thaught i had heard a rumer of it being a sunk boat that was fixed , also thaught i heard it was sold to someone in TX , but the add was updated june 25th this year , so maybe its a different one , it does look like one of the originals , with the injected 350 mags and blackhawks , and the unforgetable paint scheme , god i wish i could afford one !!!

i really should have read previous posts , re-stating the already known :( , but it did say the add was updated 25th
