Boy it was several years ago but I think it was around $600. I had a local fab shop build it for me. I of course provided the CAD drawings. All he had to do was cut, bend and weld!

Now the question is do I make the standoff out of plywood and glass when I redo the transom or have something made from aluminum ($$$)
is the standoff a dimensional necessity or will it be load bearing? I would probably opt for aluminum as easy as it would be to mill (unfortunately $$$$$$) I just picked up a three axis gridge mill hope to be able to make this kinda schit soon lol.

how low below the bottom are the prop shaftrs going to be set?

i think I mentiioned in another post that mine were supposed to be 3 1/4 below the bottom with standard drives and with a -2 drive they would be 1 1/4 below with the 3 up extension boxes. when i finally got around to hanging the drives they were pretty much level with a standard drive. i do not think the company that mounted the 3 up boxes understood the concept of what they did. now i am wondering if i will be able to get on plane

Thanks Dave! So glad you chimed in!

I guess you can consider the standoff as load bearing since it's what the drives will be mounted to. Believe me I would love to do it from 2 blocks of aluminum but the aluminum alone would cost $1500 before any milling or powder coating. Not sure it's in the budget! . My plan was to make it out of 5 layers of 3/4 marine grade plywood with a layer of 1708 between each sheet. The whole unit would be through bolted in 4 places
And then wrapped all around the outside in 1708 with it being tabbed into the new transom plywood. I figured that would make it wrong as hell! Your thoughts?

I also plan to cut the majority of the back of the boat off when I replace the transom. I figure the original glass is already Swiss cheese from the TRS's and all the accessories. This will allow a nice clean mate between the new transom and the standoff. The attached picture with the red line shows the rough idea of the cut line. I believe the will leave enough glass to maintain dimensional stability of the back of the boat.

Dude that sucks! When I started this venture I was very concerned about making sure I mounted these surface drives at the right height. Luckily I was able to put my hands on the original kaama setup documentation that includes mounting location information. I also had another board member confirm that the dimensions in the documentation are relevant for the scarabs and not for just another brand like formulas.

Making some good progress on the new engine cradles. Hopefully I can test mount them in the boat this weekend!
