Scarab 31 owners......GOT SPEED?

Keep in mind when doing prop slip calculations with a bravo 4 blade, you cant use their stamped pitch number. They may be stamped 26" of pitch, but actually measure out to about 25.2''. They're almost a full inch of pitch less than stamped.
Either way, 82mph with 465HP per side in a old 31 Scarab, is tough to believe. My buddies late 80's 34 scarab is lucky to see 65mph with that power. I cant see the 31 being 17mph faster and only 3ft shorter. My buddy has a 2000 33AVS, turns 28p bravos. Its about a 80mph boat. A pad bottom 33/35 Fountain of that era with 500's wouldn't hit 80.
Either way the 31 Excel's are cool. Always loved the early 90's ones, they had awesome cabins! Pretty pimped out, then later they kinda cheapened the cabins up imo.

My boat originally had the 465hp's in it and 82mph was never even a thought. I didn't even believe the sellers 80 mph claim. All I know for fact is it has 1.5 bravo's and turns 27p mirage pluss props to 5200 rpm. Sounds like the 31's are relatively fast for what they are so I am going to guess mid 70's when I get the gps on it this summer. But what ever it runs it felt fast to me

Indy's boat is an old Scarab School boat, if I remember correctly? There were roughly a 1/2 dozen or so of those boats. If so, that boat should be Kevlar. That would likely drop about 800 or so lbs off that boat as compared to other 31s of the same era. Dont recall any other Kevlar 31s as a regular build.

Here is the pm that did an article on the school. I was actually able to track down a copy of the magazine.

Sorry guys I have been away, unable to defend myself. I see 78 mph GPS at 5,000' elevation. Faster at sea level. This is on a Gaffrig GPS. As far as I know, props and motors are stock.
