Sounds like the dash speedo may not have been dreaming....... I thought it felt fast
After testing just about every prop on my boat ... the mirage non plus props ran the best speeds ... just difficult to get on plane .

boat ran 76 gps with a pair of labbed 26 bravo 1 's hp 500's when I bought it .

Interesting, mine has the 27p mirage + props and I was impressed with how effortlessly it came on plane. Did your issues have anything to do with water conditions? I have heard that the higher pitch mirages (27 and 29) make it hard to get on plane in rough water.

27's and 29's were the props I had trouble with calm or rough conditions ??? They would almost make it over the hill ... then just blew out .

This is great to see all these numbers and I plan on being able to supply better numbers on my top speed toward the middle of the summer.

My 1994 31' Thunder came from Scarab with the HP500 carb motors. It also came with Mirage 3 blade 25P props. Ratios in the drives I can't answer for sure. I also notice my props turn out which may add another detail or question to the discussion.

I, like some of you question the numbers I am seeing on the stock tachs and non gps speedo. My boat pushes the speedo well beyond the 75mph mark which is the last graduation shown. I plan to check with gps some time this summer.

Its also good or bad to see there are other people seeing the same cavitation issue. Mine will come up on plane without an issue as long as you push the throttles down slowly. The other part I notice is making left or right direction changes while coming up on plane will also cavitate the props very quickly.

Had mine out this past weekend and found out the dash speedo is almost worthless. I had 6 people on the boat was cruising at 3600 rpm the dash speedo was bouncing between 40-45 and the gps on my phone said 52. Soon there after that stupid little speedo tube on the transom got flipped up and the dash speedo stopped working all together. I bumped the throttles up one more click and 4000 rpm returned 62 on the gps . The next day with 4 onboard got 4600 rpm and 71 mph and decided more seat time was needed before going any further but I had allot of throttle left. I could not be happier with the performance of the boat, as long as the drives where perfectly straight and you ease into the throttles there is little to no cavitation with the 27p mirage plus props.

Here is a pic at the dock that day

Probably not going to help you much but my 89 31with stock 330's running 23 mirage , non plus sees 62 ish with 4 people and just over 1/2 tank of fuel in flat water. Same deal in like 2-3' chop can get 66-67. Seems good to me for a stock 31. Yes mine has that big kevlar stamping right under the HIN . Always wondered why they put it there liket that hell its even crooked compared to the him number. Almost looks like an after thought. Currently building fresh power at about 525 a side hoping for mid to high 70's.

A 89 31 excel in kevlar......lets see some pics. That boat should break 80 with 525 a side. On a recent run here in Pittsburgh a friend of mine was running right next to me in a 29 fountain with 500 efi's in it. He has a gps speedo in the dash and allot more driving experience than me. He said I was " near 80" as he was passing me to chase down a 30 outlaw that was out front on the last leg of the run. I am guessing im around 480 hp a side

Yeah kevlar apparently they didn't build many. I can't figure out how to post pics yet from this phone. I believe I read somewhere it is roughly 1,000lbs lighter than a regular lay up but idk. I'm not looking for top speed mostly looking to pick up my cruise speed. I'm at like 46-47 at 3,000 right now. Hoping for 50 at like 2800 with the new power. I'll keep trying to figure out how to get some pics posted.

50 mph at 2800 rpm will probably take a 32p bravo 1 4blade. It would take big power to turn 32p props on a 31 scarab. You say your getting 46-47 at 3000 rpm with 23p mirage props?.....?

Well I have some seat time now in the 31 scarab and am starting to feel more comfortable with how to make the boat perform in different water conditions. I have been collecting gps data on it all summer and the final results have been cruise speed at 3600rpm is about 50mph and WOT is 5100rpm 77.6mph in about a 1 foot chop
