They will be drilled and tapped to accept stainless machine bolts.
Do yourself a favor and drill/tap them for HeliCoil inserts, and use the adhesive stainless inserts. Thanks. Brad. |

I was wondering if there would be a issue with aluminum/ SS together, my first Ducati swing arm was like that and was a mess.
What is the adhesive inserts? They have a pressure sensitive, glue-like coating on the outside of the insert threads that adheres to the threads they are installed into. After it sets up, you have stainless threads encased in your (in this case) aluminum part. Pretty much bullet proof. Even the standard non-adhesive inserts would be better than a stainless screw in an aluminum part. Thanks. Brad. |

So basically pre applied lock tight. They do that in a lot of production assemblies so that its controlled never knew they had Heil coils made that way.
I could be remembering something wrong, but I could swear I remember installing pre-adhesive HeliCoil inserts in the past, but now, I am unable to find them. I could have been KeenSerts, which I'm not really a fan of. Still.... I'd prefer a non-adhesive HeliCoil over a stainless screw in aluminum. If you ever have to remove them, especially if they've been there awhile, you may end up with a real problem. I had to run a form tap into my exhaust manifold where the shifter cable bellcrank bracket attaches. If I ever have to remove it again, I may be forced to install a HeliCoil in it, as the threads are all but gone after I just about ripped them out getting the screw out. It's just a bad practice. Thanks. Brad. |
I would use Time Sert's
