When I was putting the left engine together the head studs interfered with the GIL style exhaust manifold (apparently they were designed to clear head bolts, not studs) Had to grind down the studs to the tops of the nuts. Well when I first started the engine it had an exhaust leak on the left head. I got in there and was able to tighten them more and the exhaust leak went away. Remember at that time I was against the wall and just had to get it running for the trip. So I'm not sure if I cracked the manifold when I tightened it down or if I had a leaking head gasket.

Sooo..
To get the engine somewhat clean up and ready for the now needed rebuild, I drained the milkshake, removed the water pump belt, refilled engine with new oil, changed oil filter, ran it for 3 minutes. Next day, I drained that mess out, changed the oil, and filter, started engine to run it a few minutes minutes again, but a few seconds in, massive screeching sound (most likely a rod or main bearing spinning) I was about 5 seconds from the ignition switch and I quickly turned it off.

That's where I am now. I haven't pulled the engine yet. I'll probably do that after Christmas. Boat's sitting covered now. All this was because of not having hose clamps on the MAP sensor hose. Another day in boat life

In other news I noticed this video popped up a few days ago..

at least you got a nice rooster tail video out of that run !

hblair did you do any measuring/drawings as you went?

Im about to pick up an 82 that I’m going to get crazy with it and do a big open sport style with outboards. I want to raise the freeboard and such. I’m messing with delftship and would love to have a few numbers to start with. TIA

hybrid center console. I struggle with calling them center consoles any more when they’re a walk around cabin. But yes, today’s vocabulary calls them center consoles. Toilet, small berth partially under deck, forward lounger on top, full freeboard all the way around

Sounds like you’re taking it down and rebuilding from new stringers up? If so, I have a 38 I need to move (free) out of my shop. It has the deck off, stringers and bulkheads still intact.

This was a few weeks ago. Got the engine out and the heads looked bad. They have less than three hours on them. Engines are being rebuilt now..
