Thanks Jeff, I'm thinking I'll have a better chance of getting the wood to stick to the transom this way as well as keeping the correct shape of the transom. The transom has a little outward crown to it, and I'm thinking if I had bonded the wood together then bonded it to the transom it might have "flattenened" the transom out and therefore wouldn't fit the deck when the time comes for that.

Man that little tidbit probably just saved me tons of frustration in the future.

We got the rest of the transom in tonight....

One of the funnier things I've seen in a while. Shon rolled around in some resin and his leg got so hot he cut the leg out of his pants. That's funny any day of the week...

almost 3 months later... any progress? or you deserved some rest? :)

On march 27th, we had a monster hail storm basically fall on top of the shop here. Business is insane right now. We have cars scheduled all the way into mid September. Just unable to get anything done right now. I have not lost the desire though. We'll get on it in a few months.

Very cool thread!
Always wanted to do a complete resto on a boat like this. Maybe buy one that is a wreck and have someone do it for me? Would be nice to know exactly what I'm getting!

I read your comment about the cockpit sole being nailed to the stringers and the wood being bare with no glass on the underside. You also said the limber holes were hole sawed in after layup and not sealed.

Now I can say my 88 Elite is built to Scarab specs! My sole was attached in exactly the same way- with carbon steel nails, no less! Limber holes were the same -raw wood.

Have you seen any handwriting on the wood components? My boat had handwriting in carpenters pencil on every major piece. The fuel tank had the address of the shop in Sarasota on it.

Yeah I've seen all kinds of writing. My 30' scarab had "show boat" written on the bottom of one piece. Most of the wring is math problems though lol.

Great thread,I enjoy seeing all your progress. Being in the Automotive business have you ever thought of using panel bonding adhesive to glue some of the stringers and transom parts together. It works great and offers substantial strength. I've used it and then followed up with glass. Great project I look forward to future updates.
