Glad the Viper is coming, can't wait to check it out. The 357 has a sealed cabin bulkhead with bilge pump to send water from the cabin area to the rear where it is just dumped into the bilge again to be picked up and pumped out with engine compartment water. The LS Scarab has pvc tubes rhat run from the cabin area underneath the tanks to the rear. My concern with both boats is how to handle water that gets into the fuel tank area.

What I did was epoxy in a PVC cleanout plug in the engine room bulkhead. Every so often I'll open that up and check for water.
My boat has a PVC pipe running under the fuel tank to drain the cabin area past the fuel tank. I isolated the fuel tank compartment to keep any fuel tank leakage out of the engine compartment.

The tank area on this boat is unlike my 30 footer that has the removable teak cover. The cockpit floor in this boat is a couple sheets of 3/4” plywood permanently glassed in and sealed around the edges, there’s no way for water to get to the tank. And there’s no drain for the tank area, only a drain passing from the cabin, under the tank, into the bilge. The way you access the tank is with a Sawzall.
If for some reason the boat got rained in, the cockpit floor drains back into the bilge anyway. The engine compartment bulkhead is a bolt in deal that isn’t sealed to the floor.
I will feel good with an engine compartment with no drain holes in the bulkhead. When I wash my engine compartment, water only has one place to go, out the back.

Got a little more done tonight. I first started cutting the 3rd bulkhead out to replace it, discovered the rt inner stringer is roached. Then my Sawzall blade gave out. Good place to quit. This boats gonna have a lot of new wood in it.
Looking forward at the rt #3 bulkead...

In the main cabin area, The outer stringers and braces tap crisp and clean. They should they didn’t contact anything else lol....

Although the undertaking is not easy and a sore back must be constant, the vision of a completed (old skool) 38 Scarab from it's early neglected innards all the way to new
engine stringers and a solid deck to stand on.......must pause to say, "with my hands I restored back to life a real classic"...........nothing compares to these old gorgeous boats!!

Well said Scippy !! Just thinking. There seams to be more classic Scarabs and Magnums rebuilt than any other brands. Donzi May be in that group as well. Am I being narrow minded. Just think about how good it will feel moving from sawzalls, skillsaws, hammers, to holesaws, 3M sealers, screwguns, and wrenches. Keep on trucking
