Earlier in this thread we got into a discussion about cracks in the center of the base of the fairing on the deck of these boats. Here's Wayne Kolbs..

Yes it’s wood from the fairing back, also all the framework is wood, and the ridge in the middle of the front of the deck under the rail is reinforced with wood, then they laid divinycell over it. The wood inside there is ritten on mine, it’ll be a lotta fun to fix lol.
In other news I think I’ve decided against the Coosa board. I just don’t see the cost effectiveness on these heavy wave crushers. I have also decided to scrap that idea. I've got enough money going into this boat, another $2k to lighten it up a touch seems like a poor idea. My boat is also cracked in the same area. Part of me wants to core that area, the other does not. That was the one area of the boat I didn't plan on touching. The headliner in mine is actually in perfect shape, and to replace it, and have it look perfect I think would be a challenge to say the least. Every other scrap of vinyl in the boat is being replaced. Decisions- decisions. |
Yeah it would be a lot of work and a mess to do on your boat. With it together and having to work overhead. With mine it’s a no brainer, will just add a small amount of work on this monster project lol.
Does anyone have any tips on a good supplier to get headliner material from? Since I have mine apart and mine is pretty rough I’m going to go with a different more modern looking material. Pointers? |
Heath I need some of your headliner fur if you are not going to use it about 5'x5'!

For your headliner, just use a high quality vinyl. For mine I'm leaning towards a high quality ultra-leather fabric. Luxor makes some "vinyl" that is very similar to Ultra-Leather, but half the price if you search. If you keep and eye on eBay, you can get actual ultra leather for around $22 a yard. It's normally around $66 a yard, but you need to buy in bulk to get it for $22.

Thanks buddy, appreciate it. Doug, sure, you're welcome to whatever you need. As soon as I secure something to go in it's place lol.
We got some more done last night. Although it doesn't look like it I ground on the bottom for 1.5 hours. Still have more to do. I think we're gonna get everything forward of the cockpit rot replacement done, and the deck rot replacement, and headliner done, then put the deck back on the hull to do the cockpit floor and engine compartment rot replacement... I've got next week off, so I'll be finally getting some stuff done on mine. I'm hoping to at least get the transom in, and all the bulkhead re-tabbed.

Its amazing to watch this thread and having the same boat and know what disaster I'm in for one day. I also find it humorous and kinda sad when guys selling boats say "yeah, the hull is rock solid" and underneath the fancy speakers and glitzy wrap is a pile of **** waiting to break. Heath, I hope this is you "one and done" boat. I know after your done that this thing will take any power. You inspire me for the day when I am going to tear into my boat. I'm afraid to ask but do you have any guess what you have cost wise into the materials so far?
|
I'm with you on the :rock solid" thing. They're all rock solid! lol I hope this is my one and done. I always wanted a 38 scarab. Notice to the left my join date to this board is october of 2006. I didn't own a scarab til late 2013. I used to come to this site and read about "cigarette boats" or "cigar boats" as everybody in Alabama calls them lol. Where that term came from I have no idea. I used to watch youtube videos of the ohio vice boat idling around. 2!! big block chevys! Anyways, yeah, I look to keep this one. I don't know about inspiring anybody. I might be scaring them away lol. The cost isn't that much. I'll PM you.
