Just opened up my 353 for the season. I left the factory installed 50amp charger on all winter long. Both engines cranked right over....this is my second winter doing this. NO problems either...

try to go with the 353 if you can. Alot of stuff in the 353 is standard equipment that isn't in the 312. If you can find a 353sport, (or are buying new) you can save a considerable amount of money...
