I'm no expert, but I'd like to know how a cam that closes the intake valve later in the cycle and has more overlap with exhaust events can make more compression than one that closes it sooner.

I know on a sbc if you use too long a bolt in one of the front accessory holes it'll interfere with the push rod, don't know if that's the case with your block.

Depending on who's gear you are using, double check the clearance between the back of the gear and the raised casting by the three plugs around the cam tunnel. A little grinding may be needed.

I'm not an expert, but those chambers on flat top pistons in a 406 may need the intake valve to close way late to deal with the high c/r and stay pump gas friendly.
