Ended up measuring tank depth and it is 16" on a 272 so if anyone is replacing their fuel sender with a tube type you'll need to buy a 24" and cut it down.

No it's definately come from the cylinder head, manifolds were not cracked when i pulled them, they seemed intact. i guess there must be a waterway close to the manifold bolt hole.
